Handbag swiped in Morrisons Hillsborough
cal3549 replied to juliavirago's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Must have been awful having your bag taken ? Morrisons does have instore cctv but it only covers certain areas and not the whole shop so I'm told. -
Just returned and power is back on in Loxley and there's a northern power grid van working on Ben Lane. However, they've just tweeted me back saying power won't be restored until the early hours of the morning, so don't know if it's all fixed yet (?)

Power off in Loxley - has been for about an hour.

Is it The Snip playing in Loxley tonight, meaning we all have to keep windows shut because of the noise in this sweltering heat? Youngest kid can't sleep because of the music even with the windows shut. Haven't been able to sit out tonight due to the noise.

We had a Howdens kitchen - it's beautiful! Only slight negative was the pushy sales woman/designer who did the home visits - talked for England, and struggled to listen to what we wanted rather than what she thought we should have...

I did a TA course at Hillsborough college but tbh it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I would think a home study course would be of even less value. I got a job (lv 2 TA at a lovely school) by volunteering there 1st, then taking a job as a dinnerlady, then applying for TA jobs there (got a lv1 job, then a lv2). You need the hands on experience and skills far more than you need a qualification. TA interviews usually involve teaching/ working with a small group/class/individual child so that you can demonstrate and apply your skills. Most jobs are advertised as either a certain level (ie. qualification) OR "relevant experience". This means that the qualification isn't an essential requirement. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. X

Can teaching assisstants teach a class
cal3549 replied to Sallylizzie's topic in Sheffield Parenting Group
HLTAs are perfectly capable of covering classes/ planning lessons - although it's more likely they're delivering a teacher's planning. Is it a temporary situation? Some parents may prefer their child be taught by a HLTA in a teachers absence, rather than a supply teacher who doesn't know the kids or the school. -
Hang in there ford555. My son has been in the speech therapy system since he was 3 (now nearly 7) and they've done wonders for him. It was frustratingly slow progress of assessments and waiting lists to begin with, but he did get, and is still getting, excellent support from the service.

Do you mean "are they allowed to", or "are they capable of"? -
Daisy Chain Nursery, Oughtibridge
cal3549 replied to makkers's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
My son went there a few years ago but I ended up taking him out as communication and billing was appalling. They'd planned a trip out but failed to let me know so when I took my son they were all headed out the door and he wasn't able to go Before this I'd been billed incorrectly on a couple of occasions, found the manageress to be rather flippant and condescending, and was told that one of the senior members of staff had taken a treat out of a friends childs lunch box and eaten it I hardly ever post on here, but really feel strongly that Daisy Chain is by no means the best nursery in the area. I actually moved my son to a local preschool (and his brother went here too) and the care and communication was far better in my opinion. Hope you find somewhere your child likes.
