Hi, another trip down memory lane. I first posted on this thread a while ago. Marcia, I'm sure I knew you, did you live on Rokeby Road/Drive and go to St Pauls church? I also knew Julie Simpson, who also lived on the same road. You two were my closest friends when I was at Monteny Junior. I went to Colley Comp, and left in 1973 early, I should have left in 1974. I was Diane Elliott back then. -

I went to Colley Comp '69-74 I remember Mr Carmody tho' can't remember what subject he took us on.. I remember feeling sorry for him during lessons as he was given a hard time by some of the class epecially those sitting at the back, he was always red faced trying to control them and we never got round to learning anything as time ran out. I can even remember fights breaking out with him and some sent to Mr Birch but nothing was ever solved. -
Hi, are you ok? tried to PM you. It seems it is a while since your last post.

I was caned by Mr Birch twice on each hand for wagging school 1 afternoon and same again for fighting on school grounds with a girl who had it in for me! -
Direct Health Care company
diane00058 replied to mrs patching's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
DH are rubbish, and it seems not changed for the better since I applied and got a job with them 12 years ago, I had to pay for my own police check and 4 passport type photo's, the work was advertised for my local area and as I only had use of the car some days I thought it would be ok, my first job was miles away and I had to beg for the car to get there on time as it was over an hour on the bus, I arrived and was expected to change a catheta and clean the person in bed as well as lots of other care which I wasn't told about, I was only given the address and arrival time and 1 hour to do the job, just as I was getting my head round this another carer from DH came in and said it was his call, so we were double booked! He was so rude to me and also upset the client I left, I contacted DH and they said I would get my travel allowance and pay for 1/2 an hour. I waited a week for another job but it was so for away I had to turn it down, I never got my money and was out of pocket by £35 They run ads continually and this must be because they are no good, I do feel sorry for those who have to have this company care for them. :help: -
Have you ever been on a pub crawl with Sean Bean?
diane00058 replied to md00071's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
My son went back to his house to a party in the mid 90's after Sean was in town promoting his film "When Saturday Comes". He says he was a great guy and they all had a good time! -
I used to live at 696 Wordsworth Ave, just round the corner from tunwell Ave. 1964-1969

I don't know the year you sang in the choir, but my brother also sang in it too, he also carried the cross to the alter in the service and on street processions eg whit sunday, we used to go to church twice on a sunday + I went to sunday school, we were always doing something for the church and the vicar who we called Father George was a regular visitor to our house, we left the area in 1964. My brother was called Michael Elliott.

Blues Legends in Sheffield in the old days?
diane00058 replied to diane00058's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Sonny Boy Williamson's famous quote upon returning to the USA was "Those British boys want to play the blues SO badly, that's why they play it so badly..." Classic. He once also stopped a rehearsal with a backing band mid-song, and said to them. "Boy's, how many bars do you think there is in a 12-bar blues" "Er, 12? Isn't it?" "WRONG. There's as many bars as I say there is..." And he also once set fire to his hotel room after trying to cook a rabbit in his coffee machine. I don't think he liked Britain that much! -

Well it looks like a complete wreck to me. I'd like to see you try flying to the Isle of Man on it... -
Most expensive car in Sheffield?
diane00058 replied to Assassin007's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Most of the supercars in Sheffield used to have the dreaded Prince Naseem behind the wheel. He once went into Currys on Meadowhall Retail Park, and nicely advised the incredulous staff to "...don't ever buy a Maserati, fellas, they are absolute rubbish..." ("Oh thanks, Nas, we'll stick with the Kias and Hyundais then...") -

I know it was after the war, but there is still the complete wreckage of a USAF reconnaissance plane lying in a secret spot on Bleaklow above the Snake Pass. It crashed in 1947. A guy from Eckington named Daniel Staniforth has a brilliant 23 minute video on Youtube about it. -
