  1. We moved from Sheffield to Worksop five years ago. Have never regretted it for a moment. We have personally not been affected by any crime but Worksop is no better or worse than anywhere else. There are things we miss about Sheffield, the choice of restaurants and bars, the theatres, John Lewis. However Sheffield city centre is 35 minutes away by train, Meadowhall half an hour's drive and the A57 improvements should reduce this. House prices are lower, we sold and bought at the same price but went from a 3 bed semi to a 4 bed detached. There are plenty of shops, all the main chains are here, B&Q, Wicks, Matalan etc etc. Good market, some nice farm shops/cafés. Yes, the town centre is quiet at night but the recent opening of the cinema is encouraging. Do your research, come and have a look around at different times and have an open mind. It is unfair to try to compare a small market town to a large city like Sheffield.
  2. Louise Reaney Chiropodists & Podiatrists Tel: 0114 275 9333| ground floor, Queens St Chambers, 68, Queens St, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 1WR Highly recommended!
  3. http://www.myhiphome.co.uk - £190. Very good service.
  4. Has anyone got any information on permits for fishing the Sheffield Canal? Are they available on the bank? I am thinking of giving it a go spinning for pike as I've heard there is a good head of fish in there.
  5. If you are in the right area - Carricks on Crookes have a huge range - not necessarily in stock but can order it in for you from their selection books.
  6. Bennett College was on Melbourne Avenue in Broomhill. About halfway down I think. It was a correspondence school. My mother worked there in the 50s/early 60s and I had a Saturday job there - filing! The college offered courses in a number of subjects and the pupils came from all over the world, many from Africa. They received lessons and returned them completed for marking, presumably there was some sort of qualification but I don't know. The college employed a considerable number of local women as secretaries most of whom worked part time to fit in with families. I don't know when it closed but I don't suppose there are many ex-employees left now.
  7. This guy has done a great deal of work for me in the past. He has just developed a website a link to which is below. I can highly recommend him. http://www.dhp-plastering.co.uk
  8. Damon, I think you might be right, kings does ring a bell with me. I wonder why we said that. Apparently in Liverpool they say "barley" - how wierd is that?
  9. That doesn't ring a bell with me, i keep thinking of something like "tags" but I don't think it was that
  10. Does anyone remember that, when playing 'tig' (or 'tiggy' as we used to call it) many years ago - I'm talking 50s here! there was a word you could use to take a temporary respite from the game, I seem to remember you had to cross your fingers when you said it and it meant that you couldn't be 'tug' until you re-entered the game. I'm sure there was something but no-one I have asked can remember and I think I may be going mad ........ ha ha!!
  11. Luna Rossa - Abbeydale Road Has anyone eaten there? If so, is it any good?
  12. Sorry for the delay, I'm catching up after being away. I have a notebook kept by my aunt who lived at Nether Green during the war. In it she kept a day by day account of the year of the blitz, when planes went over, when the sirens went, when and where bombs were dropped etc. its just a school exercise book with probably just a line or two per day but may be of interest. I would be happy to share it with anyone who is interested.
