  1. Now then folks, I'd be interested to know (if anyone has any stats on this) what is average amount of energy required to make a new car? i.e is it more efficient or environmentally friendly to buy a new car or to keep an older one running regardless of the difference in MPG. Anyone know?
  2. Brass monkeys I believe is an old Navy saying. I think the brass monkey was the device that held cannon balls ... and when it was really cold they fell out... hence the saying..
  3. I believe that the car park next to Mothercare (at the bottom of the moor) is for anyone to use. You don't need to use the shops there. The only restriction is that it is one hour parking only. I've just edited this as I remembered that I asked the car parking guy this and he confirmed it...!!!
  4. Well as I understand it they would be out of pocket by about 7.5 Billion..... I don't fancy the tax increase to cover that one. Look this is simple isn't it. Unless you are an eco-warrior you can't really complain about people smoking can you.
  5. Lizzmobile, this Hippy doesn't eat many ready meals, however, having now got two kids under 2 sometimes we're a bit pushed for time at the end of the day which led me to think about who does the nicest ones for the days when you just can't be bothered to cook. I'd have to agree with em3978, it's great having a load of home made curry in the freezer ready to go.... <slurp>.
  6. Having just scoffed a Sainsburys frozen Vindaloo and finding it to be pretty yummy I thought I'd ask the question.... Who does the nicest ready meals?
  7. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check. So far Morrisons at Meadowhead have only made one mistake. I used to shop at Sainsburys on Archer and week after week the receipt was wrong. I sometimes think it's deliberate as it's always on BOGOFS or 3 for the price of 2 items. I wonder how many people realise when they get home but then can't be bothered to go back.
  8. Well it may be grim up North and all that but you'll do well to get somewhere with a nice garden in Sheffield for under £130K.
  9. Yeah I thought that shop was great. Bought a leather jacket from there in the late 80's. Not sure when it shut down though. Used to love the smell in that place....
  10. There used to be a 4x4 parked outside the chippy at Millhouses with .. A1 COD Not seen it for a while though.
  11. hahahaha...... I think you may well have a point there.
  12. The point I was making really was not so much about inner city kids but about young people in general. It seems to me that young people in all walks of life are losing touch with the countryside. The CPRE and others are aging groups. Now whether you agree or not with what the CPRE champion, it's the future that concerns me.
  13. The CPRE is mainly middle class... as our so many other groups interested in this sort of thing. i.e. National Trust and so on. So here is the problem. How do you get other groups engaged in protection of the countryside? It's very very difficult. Many inner city kids just aren't interested in the countryside so couldn't care less if it's all paved over.
  14. I think there are many people out there who are in debt up to their necks..... they must be. How people afford to buy houses nowadays is beyond me.
  15. Does anyone know what was happening last night (19/08/2005) at the Beauchief Hotel? They had a really impressive fireworks display and some kind of live band/marquee thing going on.
