  1. Also blocking off Elstree Road on to Jaunty Lane.
  2. For those still interested in local MP's expenses, especially,of Meg Munn, see todays http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/. Even a breakdown of Meg's expenses , bit of editing, however. See heading: MP's expenses investigation in full.
  3. Thank you,very much obliged.
  4. Can anyone help ? I have taken out RIAS Breakdown Insurance recently, but cannot trace the Telephone Number to ring in a case of assistance being require. Or the telephone number for Windscreen assistance. I have looked through all their many leaflets and have found numbers for other uses, but NOT the numbers for actually calling out assistance . I have sent three e-mails asking RIAS for help, but all have been ignored. Being profoundly deaf I cannot phone ,and so need to make contact via E-mails. Never again will I use RIAS for any of my Insurance needs. If I cannot contact them ,I cannot use them. I can imagine the difficulties I would encounter if I wanted emergency help in the case of Car Insurance or House Building and Content help. Their Web Site and adverts appear so tempting ,but beware, I am so disappointed. Anyone know the Call Out Numbers, please.
  5. No he hasn't been forgotten. My wife and I were only talking about him this morning. A little bit of info----he used to live with his mum just across the road from where we live at Gleadless. We also bumped into him on a pier at Yarmouth ,where we spoke to him as he raided a slot machine for food. We were impressed ,at the time ,with his duo act. Sorry about Lennie.
  6. But beware. I wanted three Airfix models and used a Search Engine online. I was directed to http://www.up-the-junction.co.uk,which looks a brilliant site, with all my required items "in stock". Ha!! Ha!! a month later,no models. Out of stock with no promised delivery date. Asked for refund, which I eventually received after another 30days. Never again.
  7. Give Charlie Browns on Barmouth Road a try. They do a package of MOT and service at a reasonable price.
  8. Anyone know what has been happening at the top end of Seagrave Crescent about 2pm,Thursday. There has been persons in yellow jackets, and Police, restricting and diverting traffic.
  9. I had this business "Up the Bottom",but it wasn't a finger. When he'd finished ,I asked if he was looking at my tonsils.
  10. Gleadless, not far from "astrasri" on Charnock. We have had Fieldfares and Redwings after the same berries, but a year or two ago. Occasionally we get herons after our pond fish. My wife saw one, two or three days ago.
  11. For those bird spotters that might be interested ,my wife and I spotted a flock of Waxwings in a berry laden Hawthorne hedge near to my garden in Sheffield, yesterday. A rare sight and I was able to get a few photos at 10x zoom but quite recognisable. Having had an interest in bird spotting for many years ,I must say this is one of my most interesting sightings.
  12. Thanks manaman. Bet we know each others families. Pauline Shearstone is an old friend and lived not far from me. My sister was taught by her as an artist. A lot of the information in the two(three) books of Paulines relate to and was donated by my Father, Uncle and another family member ,the late Ethel Pass. I do have both of the separate copies of the books, but not the combine. However ,I have not seen the section you mention about Seagrave Nursery ownership. My uncle used to work there and often took me on his shoulders, piggy back, to stoke up the fires at night. My grandmother worked in the big house at the entrance for Mrs Harrison. Re NEGS, two of the finest teachers to whom I owe a lot were Wilkinson and Kershaw. Kershaw actually convinced me that Shakespeare is not a load of rubbish. Bilcliffe beat the living daylights out of me with that Blackboard Duster, a solid wooden one. He wanted me to take up music ,but that was like asking a turkey to vote for Christmas. Thanks a lot . Am looking for combined edition.
  13. I am interested in this particular topic since I too was a pupil at NEGS from 1945 to 1950. Sencicle Boule had arrived before I left . He was a family friend , I also being from an old family in Gleadless. My uncle was employed at Seagrave nurseries and Sencicle was related to the Harrison Family who owned the nursery after the Seagraves and Wrights, living at that time on Gleadless Common. He was aware of my presence in class(Physics at the time) and our family ties and we maintained a healthy respect for each other. Reminders for old pupils at Negs. Do you remember Claud Rains, Baby Face Wilkinson, Der klein Otto, Simpson(french) , Religion Chambers, fitness Atkinson, Sheffield organist Bilcliffe,English Kershaw, and more interesting fellows. This is an amazing coincidence. Recently I was asked to look into the Solomon Seagrave family history to search out one of his relatives. Again I came up against Sencicle since his family have ties with the Seagrave Nurseries. Any information would be welcomed.
  14. Have you noticed the UFO to the left of second photo? Wow ,what a shot.
  15. As a kid I saw a lot of the mentioned artistes at the Empire ,but also at the Attercliffe Palace with an Oates Ice Cream in my hand, and sat by the bloke with the spotlights in the Gods. I saw Oliver Hardy after Stan had passed on. But I must mention one of my old favouries, Frank Randle. You can see his antics on Youtube Videos, especially the Drunk Scene. I saw Billy Cotton Senior, Chris Barber , the lad who played Just William, Archie Andrew and now to make you jealous, The Folies Bergeres. And More. What brilliant entertainment in those days for a meagre cost.
