Who should run for Sheffield's Mayor?
Lean Wilf replied to GodStar's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
No one. We have enough elected representatives as it is! An elected mayor would have the power to force through whatever crackpot scheme they wanted to and we would have no say until their tenure was up. Their manifesto will be full of populist but unworkable ideas and they will be able to force decisions through the Council with a minority vote (some may think that this has already happened in other Northern towns). Have a read of http://www.thebirminghampress.com/2012/04/10/why-the-mayoral-referendum-matters/ if you are in any doubt. We're being asked to add another layer of bureaucracy to an already over-bureaucratic system. Who pays for it? We do. In the form of extra taxes or cuts in services. Don't vote for politicians - it just encourages them. NO to an elected mayor. -
No. It's not.

Have a look at a few of these links before you finally decide what to do.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

What would you do to with a homeless 15 year old?
Lean Wilf replied to Digsy's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I know nothing about this particular case but from personal experience the lies that abusive parents tell can be outstanding too. Let Social Services sort it out. -
I assume that you've contacted the British Psychological Society (these appear to be the professional body for registered psychologists so they should know ALL the psychologists in Sheffield) and Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Trust?

I'd recommend Thou Art, Chapel Walk in the Town Centre.

Advice On Finding A Job?
Lean Wilf replied to stevematt89's topic in Sheffield Business & Employment
Have a look at some of these sites on the Internet: http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/ http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/ http://www.totaljobs.com/ http://www.reed.co.uk/ http://www.monster.co.uk/ http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/ is the JobCentre website. http://www.totaljobs.com/ appears to be the biggest on-line agency at the moment. Good luck. -
£3.00 for a single child on their own in a boat. £2.00 each for two children sharing. Just for info, like.

No they don't. Not just by virtue of being addicts or alcoholics, anyway.

See Post 37.

Your car analogy doesn't work. Giving away cars to car thieves wouldn't earn a net gain of the order 2.5:1 for financial outlay. Getting treatment for a drug addiction isn't a crime. Your opinion about voluntary work is irrelevant to any current arguments but very interesting. The process for an addict being allowed to work in a voluntary capacity is littered with pitfalls, from CRB checks to discrimination by potential employers. I agree with you to the extent that I believe that when a medically stabilised addict is judged fit to work by a Doctor then voluntary work (however little) is a very good idea and can help them recovering addict back into employment.

*cigarettes *don't *heroin *until *Friday *asthma *inhalers *heroin (again) *inhalers (again) *heroin (yet again) 1. I'm not being defensive. I'm disagreeing with you. 2. Tax on a product can be equated on Society collecting revenue from the increased uptake of a product. I have already provided evidence that every £1 spent on drug treatment saves £2.50 to society. The higher the percentage of addicts in treatment the better the financial reward to society as a whole. Also, as far as I'm aware, sport isn't taxed. I've never had to pay to watch a game of football in the park! 3. My status as a current or ex drug user or as someone connected to drug treatment is hardly relevant, is it? If you follow my previous posts on this Forum you will quickly find out my history. I am far from reticent about it. 4. You seem to be grouping current users of illicit drugs in with those on treatment. I merely advocate for those in treatment in this tread. This makes your fatuous remarks about cocaine redundant to the debate. 5. You are the first person to mention asthma. Kindly don't presume to anticipate my possible responses. I just don't believe you are up to the task. 6. As has been mentioned multiple times in this thread there is no exemption for methadone/Subutex/Suboxone prescriptions on the NHS. If a person qualifies for free methadone, for example, then they will equally qualify for free asthma medication. Your question/assertion in the last paragraph isn't based in fact. You are wrong. Again. 7. When last tested my IQ was evaluated as 138/150. IQ isn't related to the ability to incorporate facts into argument, the ability to reason, the ability to at least use a spell-check. Once again I'm baffled as to why you would want to know my IQ or why you would think answering your inherently flawed question would demonstrate my IQ.

How would we survive if greggs in town got bombed
Lean Wilf replied to sleepercreep's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I don't understand why I suddenly feel hungry.... -
If I had my way then people who can't spell or use proper grammar would be culled. The average IQ of the nation would increase and we would all be better off. This idea is probably equally offensive to many as yours is to me. It looks like you are trying to set up a list of "deserving illnesses" that should be treated, so here are a few more problems which could be considered self-inflicted for you to ponder upon: Adult onset type 2 diabetes (normally self-inflicted through obesity and over-consumption of refined sugars) Lung cancer, cancer of the tongue, cancer of the throat (self-inflicted by smoking) Stomach cancer, pancreatitis, cancer of the pancreas, cirrhosis if the liver (caused by alcohol consumption) Cuts, bumps, broken noses etc. caused by violence/accidents whilst drunk. Sexually transmitted infections (caused by unprotected sex) Sporting injuries It looks like I could have come up with a solution to the NHS funding crisis, doesn't it? **Shakes head and walks slowly away**
