  1. omg! sounds like my worst nightmare! i may have to remain financially embarrassed for a while! (i just hate the smell of frying anyway and i am not veggie) gross!
  2. right ok. so what was the worst thing???
  3. is there anyone that has actually been a lodger themselves? just interested to find out how it worked for them. thanks
  4. amyV thats a great idea, another way to save some cash. i dont suppose it matters thats its a copy as long as its signed. thanks
  5. he he that did make me laugh! i didnt want to be too cheeky lol. i will certainly look into that. thanks
  6. hi, thanks for the quick response and some very helpful comments. i am still thinking about it, and hopefully will find someone who is a friend of a friend so that they are not complete strangers! im quite a humerous person and i am sure i would enjoy the company but i know i will have to be careful not to "mother" anyone because of the empty nest syndrome! and having lived with boys who are 20 and 30 somethings i am not easily shocked! wonder if they would be willing to walk the dog??? has anyone drawn up a proper agreement or anything?
  7. hi has anyone had a lodger living with them or has ever had one? iv had my fulltime job cut to part time and im considering taking in a lodger to help with finances. im a bit worried in case the other person thinks im too fussy (i hate pots left out on the drainer overnight) that sort of thing, but i also realise that if i go ahead it will also be someones elses home and they may feel they can do as they wish. also does anyone know what the protocol is on them having friends over to stay or a significant other? We will be sharing the kitchen, have a seperate sitting room and the upstairs which we dont use has bedrooms, office, shower room which would be theirs and a loft type lounge area for computer etc. yes i have loads of room as the kids have all recently moved out but i dont think the house will sell in this current climate so im stuck with it. also i have no idea what sort of price people pay for house share these days, all bills will be included. any thoughts would be much apprciated especially if you are someone that is already house sharing. i would hate to offend anyone! thanks.
  8. i sympathise completely! getting a cat to stop peeing in the house is a nightmare! inappropriate soiling is effectively a non-aggresive response to threat, ie she cant see the other cats and doesn't feell up to bashing them herself, so she is letting them know how she feels! if you google "how to get rid of cat pee" smell or stains there are millions of suggestions! iv tried quite a few of them! but a sensible thing would be to speak to a friendly veterinary nurse at your local practice who may well have had to deal with this problem herself. hope this helps. good luck
  9. well folks i am gonna sit this one out. it's quite enlightening how heated, and sometimes quite rightly so, this subject is becoming but we are not here to pass judgement on each other or have we lost the right to free speech over here too?
  10. boyfriday, that does not answer my question
  11. boyfriday, when were you last in Zimbabwe?
  12. oh and we had many friends who had their farms burnt to the ground. they loved that country with all their hearts and had been born there themselves. what use is a deserted farm and ruined crops to the starving? I can understand anyone wanting what they are entitled to, but why just pillage and destroy and then move on? i cant think why families havent been allowed to move into the farms and make a living for themselves. as least the farm wouldn't have entirely been wasted.
  13. c'mon everyone. this has happened in most of the countries in africa at some time or other. its just that Zimbabwe or S. Rhodesia as i knew it, is in the news right now. This country needs support, not bickering over the whys and wherefores now. I lived there for 15 years, yes the zimbabweans are entitled to run their own country but perhaps it was a little premature to think that they could go it alone at that time. The 'whites' never owned this country but just nurtured it so that it became the most self-sufficient trading countries on the continent. There was hardly a need to import anything but greed and corruption paved the way for the impoverished country it has become. It makes my heart bleed to think of the blood sweat and tears that has fallen into Zimbabwean soil.
