Hi Guys. You are all doing fantastically well for me. Obviously I've got nothing to contribute because all I know is what I got from my partner - a Rotherham girl - her family pictures - and the research that I am doing. But all of your contributions are being soaked up. I'm loving it. If anyone has pictures that I could borrow and copy I have a relative there who will collect and return them.

Hi Plain Talker you've got me foxed already. I realise that I didn't tell you- I'm not from Sheffield. That is why I am finding this site so entertaining; it is like arriving in another country where you know all the words but non of the references. Fleet Street, where is Fleet Street? My modern map of Sheffield, bought at Woodall Services on the 28th Dec, doesn't show a Fleet Street. Is there a way that users can share photos on this site?

I want to be told anything and everything about this area of Sheffield up to the clearance of the old dwellings and shops. My original search got me into the Pyecroft school thread and I've already had help there from Pitsmoorboy and Capricorn II but I need to get more specific. The focus of my interest is The Cromwell View. In 1901 that pub was run by George Clark and my wife's grandad lived there. What was it like for a 14 year boy growing up in Brightside then. Do you see where I'm going?

A big thank you to Capricorn II that photo is just what I'm looking for. You Pyebank persons are coming good for me, and I only ended up in this place because I don't know what I'm doing. I think I will start my own thread because that will surely bring me lots of Brightside stuff. Thanks again.

Thanks Pitsmoorboy, its good to know there's info out there. Your memory is good the pub was on that corner. I've found out that it had two addresses - 80 Spital St. and 19 Verdon St. Its nice you've got a picture of your mum don't lose it. Do you know where I can get pictures of the locality in the olden days? I've been thro' the files in Sheffield library but they only have pics of the clearances.

Can any of you help me out? I've arrived here because I'm looking for info re The Cromwell View. You often mention the pub but thereare never any details. My wife's grandfather grew up in that pub. That is all we know and we'd like to add to it. Penge97
