  1. Worksop is my favourite half marathon. I did yesterdays on the back of doing the Yorkshire marathon last week and quickly realised that my legs still had very little to give so I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I usually do. That puddle early on was bloody unpleasant but luckily the rest of the course was nice and dry. I love the run through Worksop College at the end and the race T shirts are always good.
  2. We're all also assuming that the opening poster is telling the truth...
  3. Not very easily. More like mincing... ---------- Post added 29-12-2016 at 19:32 ---------- Yes I did. I was just saying that there appears to be a problem with drainage on the asphalt which is not an issue with the paved surfaces.
  4. Whilst out running I have noticed that the new asphalt pavements do not drain very well. Where there is a camber the water runs off but on a flat pavement there are accumulations of water which freeze over in the cold weather. They are quite dangerous to run on but I find myself slipping on paved surfaces too.
  5. I called into the Nottingham a few weeks ago with a couple of mates on our way into town after work. We just intended to have a quick pint as it was on our route into town but we decided to line our stomachs with some food. It turned out to be an excellent idea as the pies are delicious and the pub itself has a great atmosphere. Yes, the pies at the Broadfield and the York are wonderful but I'd encourage anyone to check out the Nottingham.
  6. Thank you very much everybody. I just hope the weather is bicycle friendly on that day.
  7. I have an appointment at the Hallamshire on Tuesday morning and I would like to go on my bicycle. Can anybody tell me if there are any bicycle parking facilities (just somewhere I can chain my bike to without it inconveniencing anybody) at the hospital? I have tried looking online but I can't find any information. Can any of you nice people on here help out?
  8. Yes I am.... ---------- Post added 27-05-2015 at 18:59 ---------- You have completely lost me here. Can I respectfully ask you what point you are trying to make here?
  9. The key phrase is 'in my experience', that is what I am basing it on. This is experience of life in general and professionally. Growing up where I did in the 70's and 80's and even into the 90's I occasionally saw some really nasty stuff going on. I do think we live in a much safer environment compared to then. There have always been some youths that are disrespectful, this is nothing new at all. I know teachers too; some have similar views, others have different views. What have teachers got to do with this?
  10. The problem would be where the line is crossed when physical punishment becomes physical abuse. I think our lines are somewhat different as I consider any physical assault of a child by a grown adult to be abuse. Thankfully so does the law. I think far too many adults actually get a kick out of it.
  11. I usually read the phrase a 'good hiding' as a physical assault. If the posters actually meant something else then I am pretty sure they would not have used this phrase. I cannot agree with this. In my experience there is very little difference in anti social behaviour now compared to say twenty years ago. I find that the vast majority of youths are generally respectful members of the community too. That does not mean it is a not a problem, just not really as big a problem as it was in the past.
  12. I've seen this course of action fail myself, professionals do sometimes need a shove. I've also seen it used successfully many times. I also believe that there is nothing wrong with the child who is being bullied standing up for themselves and giving it back. What I don't advocate is the assault of children by adults which is what some posters on here believe is a good thing. Surely you don't believe that we should give any child a 'good hiding' or even 'paste the crap' out of them when they do wrong do you?
  13. I have plenty of credible answers but I'm not going to waste my time anymore particularly after your rather strange rant earlier. That one certainly belongs in the school yard. I'll let others judge my posts and this little conversation we've been having. Some may agree with you, others may agree with me, it really doesn't matter. I won't lose any sleep and I won't resort to making up some crazy scenario in order to make a point. Have a nice day.
