  1. you should contact the police - you didn't stop so you don't know the extent of the damage, even if there were no injuries there would be some damage to the punto and they will need to claim on the insurance of the foreign lorry driver, if the punto driver is not local they will not be on here and will not be able to find you as a witness. i was hit by a foreign lorry - he decided to stop and reverse down a motorway slip road there must have been 30 witnesses, only one came forward, he gave me his mobile phone number, 6 months later the lorry driver denied reversing down the slip road or even hitting me and the number I had was no longer in use.... fortunately i was driving a hire van and had taken out the excess waiver so there was no financial impact to me, presumably the hire company's insurance had to take the hit? i did report the incident to the police they sent out a highways agency vehicle and their only concern was that i got the lorry drivers details and he was sent on his way. i'm pretty certain reversing down a slip road would be considered dangerous driving, however the police were not interested and no action was taken against the lorry driver, maybe if it had been an english driver things might be different but it seems to me that too many foreign lorry drivers are getting away with incidents in this country....
  2. i am not doubting the money she gave away made a difference but i fail to see how highlighting one persons extraordinary wealth is a good thing
  3. i have never watched this programme before, i put it on cos it was in shef... it was very depressing - the woman is a billionaire who has never peeled/chopped an onion or lifted a finger in 30 years and she gave a VERY SMALL fraction of her wealth away - this makes for good tv?
  4. Question: why did you book a holiday to dubai?? seems to be an odd destination for a holiday! For thirty years, the city in the desert has had unprecedented success; today the financial crisis is eating away at its eroding foundations and exposing its underbelly. Slavery is rampant. they came from Bangladesh, from the Philippines, from Ethiopia to share in the wealth only to end up as modern day slaves. Their passports are confiscated. Their wages are cut or never paid and they are brutally treated. In the shade or at the bar, the remaining expats and tourists turn a blind eye. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/dubai/8449817/British-tourist-beaten-to-death-in-Dubai-prison-cell.html i don't think the murder of bin laden should be a concern if you are considering a holiday in dubai!
  5. i would say nether edge is a good bet but i don't know anything about the schools: millhouses for me would be a bit too far out and very bad traffic, crookes i consider to be slightly over priced (you get more house for your money in nether edge). nether edge is a nice area and is walking distance into town but also good bus routes. i lived there a few yrs ago on raven road and frequently went out on my own at night and never experienced any problems, the nicer/bigger houses are in the middle i.e. away from abeydale road and sharrow but i have just bought a lovely spacious mid terrace on wath road and so far have experienced friendly neighbours and no trouble. clare
  6. me and a few girly friends are having a night out on sat 16th dec and are a bit stuck for ideas as to where to go - any suggestions?? the leadmill is looking like the favourite at the minute as it caters for a mix of tastes but would like to try somewhere else. we have tried plug but it was very empty and wasn't really a great night out. i'm not from sheffield and haven't really found anywhere that i keep going back to - except the leadmill any suggestions would be appreciated, cheers clare
  7. The Strines does really nice filled yorkshire puddings and real chips, I'm a vegetarian tho so not sure what meat fillings you can get, it's definitely worth a visit tho. There is the yorkshire pudding place on ecclesall road which does good yorkshires but is predominantely take away
  8. My Mum and Dad are coming over for Lunch this Sunday (mother's day) and I want to take them out to somewhere decent for lunch. I live in Crookes but don't mind driving out to the peaks. I'm a vegetarian and usually find that I have to have stuff from the normal menu on a Sunday but I love eating a roast dinner just without the meat - the best place I've found so far is the Strines inn, they do great filled yorkshire puddings, anyone know of any alternatives?? thanks
  9. I am looking for a new hair dresser, which stylist do you recommend? Cheers
