  1. Do you realise how big the field of view is in a helicopter?
  2. It's not as simple as that though, most people when buying their first house look at a number of factors before making their decision, we've looked at a hell of a lot of houses, some that meet our needs, some that don't. The factors we're looking at is; Affordable house prices Close enough to family on both sides of me and my partner Schools/Nurseries for my young daughter Some of the places you mentioned just don't meet either of those criteria. Is there a place where i can check postcodes for crime rates/local amneties?
  3. Hi. Been looking at a property on said road, what's the road like? Is it a bad road to live on? Local shops? Bus routes? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  4. I assumed this, but then i didn't really get why their properties are on the Sheffield Property Shop Maybe I'm just thick..
  5. You've just described 99% of Sheffield, there. Its not that bad at all, i've lived on here for the best part of 14 years without any bother at all. Same as any area, keep yourself to yourself and you'll not go far wrong.
  6. Hello all. You may of read a post a few days ago regarding us having a priority on overcrowding with Sheffield City Council, a priority that runs for 6 weeks, we've bidded on some new build houses on Buchanan Crescent which are owned and managed by great places housing group. We received notification via phone call that we have been nominated for one of their properties on Buchanan Crescent and it is ours if we pass all their "checks". We have been sent out an "application form" and need to fill that in and get that sent in by Tuesday and have been told me and my partner need to find a reference each, my Partner is using their work manager and i am using our housing officer that granted us priority.. I was of the understanding that the priority i received at Sheffield Council, and registration on the Sheffield Property shop was a form of "applying for a property" so why do i need to go through all this again with Great places? Has anyone got any experiences with Great places housing group? What are they like as a landlord and what are they like for accepting tenants that have been sent to them by Sheffield Council? What sort of "checks" do they mean? Thanks in advanced, as always.
  7. The ones we are bidding on are Great Places housing company, who i've heard are really good in Sheffield. We're currently 2nd and 3rd in the queue on the three properties we have bidded on this week. Hopefully there will be some more on next week. Glad that the council has decided to fund some newly built social housing houses too. As part of my priority, my housing officer told me that as long as i am filing 3 bids per week my priority will continue, she says i can choose any 3 properties on the property shop each week, so i believe i am well with in my right to want a newly built house if they are advertised on there. Some families in Sheffield don't care about where they live as its not "theirs" and they ruin whatever they get, its inevitable that it happens, we are a family that don't see it like that, if we moved into a newly built property, we would maintain and look after it as it was our own. I agree its all based on need and not want, but as they're allowing people to bid on properties, people will only bid on properties they would feel at home in, some might not agree with what i am doing, but i want the best possible house i can get for my family, i don't rely on benefits and i work full time.
  8. Its pretty easy to say "bid on older properties too" but this week in our "eligible" creteria, there are 11 pages, 3 per page and 8 of those pages are new build properties. We have already been told by our housing officer that we can bid on area specific properties, its not really my fault that there are more new builds that older builds in the area i want to move to.
  9. Hello all. I'm making this thread for a bit of information really, and all the other priority threads are 5+ years out of date and i know things change quickly in terms housing. Basically i am in a 1 bedroom flat and my daughter has just turned 1 years old, so theoretically although its livable i am classed as "overcrowded" so i went to the local council regarding the situation, who then evaluated it and came out and did their own "checks" and they too deemed i am "overcrowded" and that i should be in a 2 bedroom flat/house, they awarded me a 6 week overcrowding property on the 1st of April (2 weeks tomorrow) and advised me to bid on the property shop (which i'm doing) and it will keep me up to date on where i am in any said queue. I've bidded the first week and finished 8th in the queue on two properties (S5) and 15th in the queue on another property (S12) and in the current bidding cycle i am 2nd in the queue on 2 properties (S5) and 3rd on the other property (also S5), these properties are the new builds by an housing association however i understand there is still two full days bidding left and that i could be lower down the bidding queue come Tuesday. Do i need it to say "there are 0 people above you for this property" to be guaranteed a property offer or is it possible that i could be offered one even if i'm 2nd, 3rd or even 4th? Not sure how beneficial this "you see live bidding queue's" is to be honest, how many other priorities are above the one we've been allocated? Do i even stand a chance of getting any of the new builds with the priority i have? The council are being pretty vague with me, was hoping someone could shed their experience OR anyone that knows something more about how it works. P.S I work 16 hours per week, I live with my partner and we're a very happy (new) family, just a little too cramped at the moment, so any advise would be amazing! - My Daughter has spent the first year of her life always in doors, when she goes out she's in her pram, it'd be wonderful to sit out in a garden with her playing with a few toys on the garden, family dreams, i suppose
  10. Just waiting for Twirlers update, hope its before the half an hour close of Sheffield Forum at 3AM!
  11. So whats happening with it now? Any chance of it becoming an Airport again? 4th biggest city in England and don't have our own airport, but Donny have one that's failing..............
  12. Your not bloody wrong! My excuse is i was following metoffice
  13. It won't get that bad, its been snowing 2 hours now and not a lot has settled. My road has been gritted (its a bus route) they gritted it at about 8PM, its not settled on my road, but the roads that lead off my road (not bus routes) it has settled on. Amey seem to have got control of it for now. Paths are full of snow, roads have nothing on them. Not only that but metoffice have significantly downgraded their snow warning, and turned much of it to sleet, which will wash away any snow on paths.
  14. This is an update to the warning to reduce the amount of snow but to highlight the individual areas thought more at risk for larger accumulations. It remains possible that this warning could be upgraded to Amber for a smaller area should confidence increase sufficiently. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to transport. From the metoffice website.
