  1. Has anyone got any news on the second phase of development? Urban Splash is claiming the next lot will be ready in March 2015, but I've not seen any signs of start of development except for some scaffolding that's been there for ages now. Urban Splash claim on their website, "more than 100 people are working on site to create 182 new homes in the second phase at Park Hill, and the first kitchens are being installed. Work’s moving along nicely and we’ll be launching the first homes for sale early in 2015,"
  2. Already read that article, interesting stuff. Think it will be great once the nursery moves into block A. When I visited on Sunday I genuinely thought the nursery was abandoned - until a woman peered out of the window, probably thinking "what on earth are they doing!". The fact that they had over 1,000 people interested in the 78 new flats in block A bodes well for the rest of the development. They will sell them all - it will just take time. I know looks are subjective and the design of the building will always divide opinion - but if you actually look at the refurbished block up close, the concrete is much brighter than before and the whole block looks quite impressive - it grows on you. Best design in the world might be stretching it - however the design of the flats is very good indeed. They combined what used to be 2 flats into one for the new block - resulting in larger flats. They also reduced the width of the walkways so increase floorspace in the new flats. They are 2 storey and all catch sunlight - something not many flats can boast. Park Hill is far superior in design to the St Paul's City Lofts block - many of which get little sunlight, are cramped, and just have a view of someone else's apartment.
  3. Not sure if there is another active thread on Park Hill or not, I tried to find one but kept coming back here. Urban Splash has announced they are to start Phase 2 and invest another £17 million into the project, with help from Places for People. This time there will be 182 new homes - the first of which will be ready by mid 2015. I visited Park Hill on Sunday - the original, unrestored part is pretty much a ghost town now, think there are just a couple of old tenants left in the original part including a guy called Mark though I haven't met him yet. The rest have been relocated to other Sheffield estates or moved into the refurbished block. All the flats I walked past are boarded up with metal doors or by other means - but you can still access the walkways, and the old lifts still work. The Grace Owen nursery is still going too - I wasn't expecting that! (it's due to be relocated as part of Phase 2). Took some photos, if anyone is interested at all: https://plus.google.com/photos/108889795530335624590/albums/6019960957300219265 I'll be keeping an eye on how Phase 2 goes and will probably keep revisiting for more photos as the site develops, I'm really intrigued by the whole thing. I've lived in Sheffield my whole life but Sunday was the first time I visited - whether you hate or love it, there's nothing else like it in Sheffield. I think it's...growing on me.
  4. Has anyone got any experience of living at the Cornwall Works flats on Green Lane at Kelham Island? Noise, security, general comments on the area? etc... Would greatly appreciate hearing from people who've lived in the building or near it. Thanks
  5. That's how the property developer/owner market it - not my words!
  6. I'm considering moving to a flat at St Pauls City Lofts - I am interested in hearing from other owners/tenants of flats there. What are the noise levels like? Is it as good as it's made out to be (best address in Sheffield, etc etc). Thanks in advance.
  7. I would recommend an upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6 or even 10.7, both run fine on 2 GB RAM. It might be that you have something like MacKeeper on your Mac that's causing your problems.
  8. I remember lot of areas in Sheffield were placed in Norton on Google, but they did fix it. But it used to be like that for a long time. For example it would say 'Crookes, Norton'.
  9. That just gets you a 'web app' though, simply adds a link on your Home screen to the Google Maps site in Safari. So its nowhere near as good as the Maps app we used to have in iOS 5. We'll have to wait for Google's Map app to be released onto the App Store.
  10. I usually argue in favour of Apple, but it would seem in this case that it was a very poor decision on their part. Obviously Apple's Maps will improve greatly but this is something that takes time. Google has had years to perfect their mapping (and you still see mistakes on Google Maps), but Apple has a long way to go with this. Apple would be foolish to not allow Google Maps app onto the App Store, so hopefully we'll see that soon.
  11. Saw that already but would like to hear specifically from people in South Yorkshire/Sheffield. Not a surprise that theres lots of inaccuracies, shame really.
  12. Has anyone in Sheffield tried the new Maps in iOS 6, specifically the turn-by-turn navigation? Would like to know how accurate the mapping and navigation is for Sheffield.
  13. This is the official YouTube app from Google on the App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/youtube/id544007664?mt=8 Nothing is confirmed yet but we can only hope that Google is working on a Maps app that could be on the App Store soon.
  14. There's a lot more to a computer than its specification alone. Take into account design faults common on cheap PC laptops - usually one small heatsink which can't sufficiently cool the Core i5/i7 they put into it. Apple take the liberty of including a better cooling system on their laptops. Walk into a PC World, and then walk into an Apple Store and you'll see why your comparison is unfortunate. Apple never has and never will target the bottom end of the market. HP and Dell have cornered themselves into a profitless market of cheap PCs. HP have already considered selling their PC business in the past, there is so little profit in it for them. IBM got out of it years ago, sold their PC business to Lenovo and they haven't looked back since.
