  1. Check out with them, what living independently would cost them, even in digs. All in, food, gas, elec, water, council tax, phone, broadband, service wash and ironing etc. I would think a third of their income would be very fair and I would then save it in a BS account without telling them. Then they would have a good lesson in the world of budgeting and finance and a good nest egg when they leave home.
  2. This all reflects their success and large footfall in their shops. When you are doing well you can afford to be picky and if their warehouse is full, where are they supposed to put large items? The smaller and less successful the charity, the more they will take off your hands.
  3. He is an excellent journalist though very partisan as he plants his flag firmly on one side. I read his book "Pity the Nation". Highly recommended. wiki "He has criticised other journalist for what he calls their "hotel journalism", literally reporting from one's hotel room without interviews or first hand experience of events. He paid the price for this though when he was severely beaten by a crowd of people in an Afghan village and barely escaped with his life."
  4. smithy266, You are Martin from "Ever Decreasing Circles" and I claim my £5.
  5. I am the only man in a house full of females. and they all have long hair. About every three months I have to unblock the plughole on the bath as it gets full of soap scum and hair. I use a flexible wire with a hook on the end. By the time I get it out it looks like a 2ft long eel made of hair. If I didn't do it the bath would just block up as they won't do it to save their lives. Apparently its my own fault that I have to do it as it is all part of the "patriarchy." Women being oppressed before any of us were born means they cant do it, even though I have tried to show them how on numerous occasions.
  6. Do you know, that never even crossed my mind, but you are of course correct.
  7. I'm sorry but how could women be intergrated into mens teams? They wouldn't last two minutes against their skill, stamina or strength.
  8. Similarly the Wimbledon men's finals tickets are about five times the price of the women's. As ticket sales are what funds the prize money it leads many to say that levelling the men's and women's prizes is particularly hypocritical.
  9. I wonder, if they had put to the general population in the 60's that we were going to follow a policy that will lead to over 50% of Londoners being of Black/ethnic minorities, by not long after the turn of the century, what the average voter would have said?
  10. They are talking about closing all women's prisons and having smaller facilities just for the worst offenders (murderers etc) suggesting that most women should be punished in the community. That will free up a fair old wedge towards it.
  11. Sorry. It makes a difference because women who have been married 18 to 32 yrs old don't make the money that puts them 8% above men in the same age bracket due to the proportion of women who go part time or stop working after marriage. Of course If they have had children then the effect is even more so. Am I right in assuming like me you have never had personal experience of a gender wage gap, within the definitions of my post. (in other words purely down to sexism.) For the figures talked about of women earing an average of (75% ish) of men for the same job to be true there should be millions of us seeing this in our work places. Yet nobody ever does. Where are the massive numbers of employers being fined under the equal pay act? Where are the millions of women shouting about their pay being less than the man working next to them. All that we ever see is stats which are never drilled down into for hard facts.
  12. How conniving and selfish. I presume that they then fake a miscarriage at a later date once the ring is on. Some men on forums blat on about evil women doing this sort of stuff just to get a meal ticket and I always put it down to paranoia. Just goes to show you never can tell.

So, the same number of hours, (no piece work) doing exactly the same job, in exactly the same location. Salaried jobs mind. No commission based work. And just for once, no quoting stats from either side. Just what you have seen yourself. Cyclone writes It would be highly unusual in that situation to be aware of the pay of any of your colleagues. When pay is individually negotiated the company often tell you (it's not true) that discussing it with colleagues is a disciplinary offence. You misunderstand me Cyclone. Individuals negotiating their own pay are very much in the minority of the workforce. It is open to men being better at it than women as surveys have found. So that isn't down to sexism. That's why I am talking about collective pay bargaining. I assume that you have no personal experience of men being paid more than women (outside of the definitions in my post) either, as you didn't answer the question. A pay gap purely down to sexism is not my experience. I have never seen it and have never met anybody who has. The Equal pay Act 1970 is there to stop it. Women 18 to 32 yrs old who have never married and never had kids earn on average 8% more than men in the same age group, in some cities substantially more.
