  1. Would that have been Frankenstein and the Monsters, lead singer Ray Stewart, later of Radio Hallam?
  2. Loved going to The Arc, late 60's, fantastic music, also a band that played there, Love or Confusion, think the lead singer/guitar was Phil Brodie, did a few good Hendrix numbers.
  3. Aunty Flo' , your grandads sister, she lived around the corner on Newall Rd.
  4. Yes it's still there, pass it regularly. Whilst waiting at the traffic lights, often think back to when I used to go shopping there with my mother, back in the late 50's.
  5. In the late 60's, I, along with my mates, used to go to the Wharncliffe most Friday, Saturday and Monday nights. Ray Stuart was the regular DJ with bands playing most Saturday nights. I think Ray Stuart's band was Frankinstein and the Monsters and the only other band I can remember is Micky's Monkeys. If I remember , the Landlord was a Mr Gandy, and I seem to recall it was a Whitbread house. We had some great nights in the Wharncliffe back then. The Cannon Hall, Sicey Hotel, Shiregreen Hotel and The Penguine all had live bands playing at weekends and it was very rare there was any trouble, Good times.
  6. I bumped into John Carnell on saturday 27/8/22, out side the market on the Moor, had quite a chat with him, lives Handsworth . He's not on social media, He often calls in the market tuesday and saturday morning.
  7. It ground to a halt, then a new site was set up on Facebook, ' Im from Grimesthorpe and proud of it'
  8. Was that when it was a steam loco' shed or when it was a wagon shop?
  9. Hi ya Gaz, same old, nothing to talk about.
  10. Have you noticed how many times the name 'Hodson' appears on the map. I wonder if the pub was named after him?
  11. Saw him a few years ago, he was an electrician with Sheffield Council. I think he was living Hackenthorpe/ Frechville area.
  12. Hi Bowls, yes I think it was, then it moved to The Sheffield Arms, then to The Ball Inn and one was held at the British Legion Club in Chapletown. If you check on 'facebook', look for 'I'm from Grimesthorpe, and proud of it' there's talk of another reunion at the Wincobank Hotel, on Newman Road.
  13. Do you mean the Wentworth, opposite Broughton Lane, yes, thats still open but it had strange opening times. Oh, you mean the Crown, it was before the last lockdown, if it will open again , I don't know?
  14. Yes saddly, all the pubs are gone, Grimesthorpe Rd/Upwell st area. Nearest pub Upwell St area is the 1812, Arena Square, or the Railway, at Brightside, and Grimesthorpe Rd is the Ellesmere . The Ball was the last to close, and that was 2 christmas's ago. So sad when you think how many there were.
  15. Ah, Phil Brodie, weren't you the lead guitar? It was your band that introduced me to heavy music, to which I still prefere.
