  1. Oh yes, also C.O.S.H.H. you ought to be prepared for something about COSHH. Even if they dont ask a direct question about this (if you dont know, google it) it would be very wise of you to chuck it into one of your answers, for a domestic job, I would expect some awareness of COSHH
  2. 1) perhaps something about health and safety - such as what would you class as personal protective equipement (this would be gloves, apron, perhaps face mask/googles depending what you doing). 2) likewise on the theme of health and safety there may be something about what you may see as your role in reducing risk/promoting safety - eg wet floor signs when mopping, not leaving cleaning chemicals laying about, 3)perhaps something about safeguarding vulnerable adults/adult protection e.g. you witness a visitor shouting at/pushing and elderly patient or what would you do if a patient told you someone had stole their purse 4)perhaps something about responding to public, what would you do if a member of public asked you where a ward/dept was (are you going to help them/find someone who can or say "dunno"/not my job to tell you) 5)perhaps something bout how you would prioritise tasks, order in which you might do something (goes to time planning, logic) e,g if you were cleaning a room, what would you do first. 6)perhaps something about how you see your role in infection control.

  4. If you are thinking of doing voluntary work at a care home over the christmas period, you would need to approach the home well in advance in order to have a c.r.b. check done. Most organisations that support vulnerable adults may require volunteers to go through the c.r.b. process and supply references
  5. I would say alot depends on the company you are going to work for. 1) managing a budget for example. Depending on the company you work for, the activities budget may not be that big. Monies used for outings or entertainers might have to come from fund raising and thus you might be expected to have involvement in arranging fund raising. 2) Hours. again depends on the company you work for, how much scope you have in arranging your ours. Activities cant just take place mon-fri 9-5, needs to be flexible along with the times that suit residents, but rather than look at it as having to do "out of work hours", there may be scope to work just your contract hours, but do them flexibly - eg work a weekend day (because of whatever activity is being arranged) and have a day off in the week instead, work 2-8 instead of 9-5, whatever suits the activity that is being planned. 3) what is important to consider, discuss at interview, is that the job is "activities co-ordinator" not "activitivies do it all by your self person". Everyone has some role to play in providing activities for residents, not just the activies co-ordinator. The role may involve liasing with other staff, organising.encouraging other staff to arrange activities for the residents they are keyworker to. Need to check if the home expect you to do it all your self or do they expect you to be motivating, involving other staff. 4) Have a look at Alzheimers Society website, see what they have around importance of stimulation, activity, occupation. Also look at Social Care Institute For Excellence website for examples of good practice/ideas

  7. Middlewood Rd, across from Netto has an old, traditional style cobblers, been there donkeys years. Hunters Bar, just before roundabout, there is a sidestreet with a very small barbers, traditional style, striped pole outside too.
  8. Try googling W.E.A. which is workers educational association, national organisation, been around for donkeys years and they do short and long term courses, should have a photography course somewhere. They tend to have lots of local branches.
