  1. We did a small claims court which cost I think £30. Do it yourself online. Listed out what had happened and provided screenshots of messages etc Because it was under £500, the court won't enforce so we just left it as he didn't pay. Over £500 (I think) you can use the court bailiff service (which you pay for). After almost a year, he popped up out of the blue wanting to pay ASAP and wanting proof that he had settled. He had obviously gone somewhere that found the CCJ and knocked him back. It was a very nice surprise... Worth looking at as letters from CAB don't cut it with these people. They don't care.
  2. I don't know. I just find it odd that right at the northern tip of Derbyshire - it is split in 2. . North East & Bolsover. Must be some historical reason for that. Plus - years ago (about 20...) the HQ of North East Derbyshire & Chesterfield borough were opposite sides of the same road in the centre of Chesterfield....
  3. Eckington and Killamarsh voted to stay in Derbyshire in 1974. Eckington & Killamarsh and both now North East Derbyshire district council. Barlborough (a mile up the road) is Bolsover district council. (Still Derbyshire)
  4. Wow I hadn't heard that. Not sure how many they are getting now (quick search shows almost 500). Although that is down on before the pandemic (in line with other park runs), it is still a heck of a lot of people. It is a long way from the original concept of "meet up with your mates and take it in turns to hold the watch and the jackets" I suspect there will be more news similar to this in the coming weeks and months. Not necessarily round here.
  5. Upstairs at HMV on Pinstone Street always seemed a little scary. Records that you might find in your mates big brother's room. Stairs were on the right hand side as you went in as I recall. Hard to explain now that finding new/different music back then was HARD.
  6. That will come next. (Another Americanisation...) On holiday a few years ago, we went to a baseball game. Major league baseball is obviously driven by adverts on TV. When there is a break in play, there is a big clock counting down showing time until the game must restart. Delaying is some kind of penalty, whatever the equivalent of a yellow card is.
  7. It is the next step towards the Americanisation of football (soccer). In this case, the first step to rotating players unlimited - similar to Ice Hockey and Basketball etc. We are already using 3 letter abbreviations - EPL - English Premier League EFL, SPL etc Just the same as NFL, MLB, (major league baseball), NHL National Hockey League.
  8. Not bothered what sport - (Football, Rugby, Cricket etc) but please note requirements as follows. You should have a junior/kids section or teams. You should have a ground or a base where we can put a sign. Please PM me (in confidence) the name of your club team and website/social accounts etc What we do is in my signature and you would also have the activity for your next social/presentation night sorted... Thanks in advance
  9. A while back I read Jeremy Vine's book. He wrote it to celebrate a milestone of callers to his Radio 2 phone in show. I can't remember how many but a) it was a lot (in the thousands) and b) he probably has more experience of TALKING to the opiniated general public than we do. He talks about this (I got the book from the library) and his conclusion is that if a person in the public eye does or says something stupid or ridiculous then HE HAS TO COVER IT because people - because they watch it on YouTube or Facebook - ring up about it. Of course, people in the public eye know all this. When I was a youth, it was called attention grabbing but it seems to be on another, higher level now. It is the click based/sound bite news economy. Next time there is a long form politician interview watch how the interviewER will spin the question round to try and nail down the interviewee. Politicians know what they say may be clipped, maybe taken out of context and put on the next hourly news update "Minister says no chance of...."
  10. slightly off topic but I picked up a couple of 4 packs at my local old style newsagent/off licence in Killamarsh a short while ago. On the side of the can it says that the "Sheffield gold" tagline and the steel man icon are trademarks now owned by Molson Canada. I didn't know that..
  11. Thank you BigAl - working or not, we will feature it...
