Just wondered if anyone else heard this or knows what it is/where its from. I was already awake, around 5am, when an almighty siren noise went off, waking the wife from her slumber. Somehow i got the blame for it! Im assuming its from a foundry or something like that, seems very loud though at that time in a morning! Also on Goore road, for nearly three years, its a decent place to live. Friendly neighbours etc, I would recommend it!

could be a number of things making that noise. Stocksbridge works doesnt actually make steel anymore, it further processes, refines and rolls steel. in the not too distant future there will be a new melting facility at the works, which will add to the noise generated I would imagine.
