  1. Is doing a quick online search of “Arundel Gate Bus Gate” beyond your capabilities? If you did, you’d find this article.
  2. You can get access at all times, you just might have to go a slightly different way. The only thing the bus gate does is stop through traffic in one direction. Nothing like a bit of hysterical gross exaggeration to spice up the discussion, eh?
  3. You don’t understand how local planning authorities work, do you?
  4. You mean the people who invented the internet?
  5. So you have meaningful conversations with hundreds of people every week on how good or not councils are and how cities should be used? Or is it you make a few posts on “social” and get a few likes?
  6. Who is “we”? I think quite a few people understand the need to keep through traffic out of the city centre.
  7. Not true in my view. No one would be a councillor just to feather their own nest. The allowances they get are a pittance for what they do and the hassle they get. Very few get into the more senior positions and even fewer go on to have a career in Westminster. The problem with assessing what people want from a city is that there as many views as there are people and a lot of views are conflicting. The way that is dealt with is by having decisions made by politicians who are accountable to the electorate at the ballot box. The officers are generally decent professionals who do a good job.
  8. Until you note how easily some drivers seem to get “confused” Having restrictions that apply at all times is more easily understood. On bus lanes that operate only part of the time, you often see that drivers won’t go in them at times they can and actually get ****ty with drivers so quite correctly do use them.
  9. Why do you feel the need to insult people who do their best for this city? Do you actually think anything through before you post? How do you think it would work to have a ballot on absolutely everything the council does and every decision they make? Do you know anywhere in the world where things are done that way? Do you have the faintest idea how many such decisions are taken by the council? Never heard of consultation fatigue? Never mind the huge amount of effort and cost that would go into having that many ballots. Utterly ridiculous and unworkable.
  10. Paying your “Road tax” just entitles you to not be prosecuted for not paying it. The money goes into the general taxation pot and could be spent on anything the government funds. Amazing how millions of motorists seem to get around just fine using the signs provided. If you don’t like the currently available signs, let the government know. Let us know how you get on….
  11. What “new” signage? Bus lane / gate signs have been around for decades. As others point out, it’s your responsibility as a driver to keep up to date with the rules of the road and any changes to signs / markings. They are in the Highway Code, which you can access for free online. If you can’t read the signs and drive safely, maybe you should hand your license in ( if you have one). As previously mentioned, I don’t think anyone would see £35 as a “substantial” fine. The amounts ( set by government ) haven’t changed for many years and aren’t as much of a deterrent as they used to be. In London, they are much higher.
  12. If you want to get personal, I might equally ask why you are prone to gross exaggeration? ( and while we’re at it, why you deliberately miss spell). My politics are none of your business, but I’ll tell you this much, I have never voted Tory ( yes that’s how you spell it) and never will. A £35 fine is “vilification”? Give us a break. It’s just a mild reminder to do it right in future.
