  1. Children aren't allowed to work these days....society insists that we wrap them nicely up in cotton wool, let them get bored to high heaven, learn no skills, confidence or ability, then when they finish school they aren't good for anything and we wonder why! This generation is really leaving the future generation with nothing but massive national and personal debt, no where no live and no natural resources.
  2. Legal or otherwise, if you had the best interests of Sheffield/the UK, why would you advocate using a non-accountable multi-national that has breached health and Safety (prosecuted for a death) to (I allege) fraudulently obtain a contract to undertake maintenance of the highways? They were supposed to resurface my street last June, but they have yet to do it, probably because it doesn't have any street trees - where's the fun in resurfacing a street without being able to fell trees and waste the taxes of Sheffield residents. Do Amey/SIA/police care, they don't live here, they don't pay tax here, their streets are not being butchered, communities ripped apart? Responsibility lies squarely with the SCC inner cabinet who have persistently failed to properly fund the proper management of the street trees and highways over the past 20-30 years. They don't represent me, they don't fool me, they are weak minded individuals who have no moral fibre and can't simply admit that they got it wrong and make it right. ---------- Post added 20-03-2018 at 00:08 ---------- Having spoken to the police officer in charge, they are claiming that they are policing the tree felling because there has been a significant change in the tactics used by the tree protectors. This is rubbish. The only change that has occurred is that AMEY/SIA decided that they would start to use 'reasonable' force, prior to that they had just behaved like goons. So, what an excuse? SYP are policing the fellings because AMEY decided to up the anti. Let's be clear and ensure that we all are informed about this. Everyone in Sheffield is being played by Amey and because SCC have signed a self-monitoring contract and the Councillors have no backbone or are simply too stupid to realise, Amey are going home every night just a little bit more wealthy as a result.
  3. My son says that no one has ever died from the menopause! I reckon that many family members have been pretty close to it! Is this something we should be talking about?
  4. That's another way of putting it, I call it littering the streets
  5. The city is now blighted littered with yellow bikes all over the place :-( Not a pretty sight
  6. The question is why do people want trees to be felled? What a crazy nonsense! If you have a problem with trees it doesn't take much thought not to buy a house with a tree outside - after all property on streets with no trees aren't as expensive. However, for the rest of the population and for generations to come, trees and the eco-systems that they support are of great value, not to mention the great job they do in combating air pollution, creating shade in summer, asthetic beauty. I have simply lost patience with the singular selfishly minded people who actively or otherwise support the felling of trees. ---------- Post added 11-12-2017 at 19:58 ---------- The peaceful protestors were not responsible for SCC spending £250,000 of tax payer's money, that will be SCC themselves. SCC do not have the political or commercial nouce to manage contracts of this size £2,000,000,000. This much is evident. What they need is help and assistance, possibly from central government. But that would require humility and vision. As it is they are ploughing on with their incompetence, lies, arrogance, ignorance, causing enormous damage to the reputation of this great city locally, nationally and internationally. Not to mention costing us our environment and our pennies. They are nothing short of a disgrace. ---------- Post added 11-12-2017 at 20:05 ---------- But they didn't sign it off. Perhaps a PFI contract to improve our highways was a good idea, but ensuring that there were checks and balances was the job of Labour. Amey just arrived in heaven when Labour took over. ---------- Post added 11-12-2017 at 20:16 ---------- Not if they fell the only tree on your street, when it was healty and supported an eco-system. Can you not identify with those people whose streets have been decimated of trees? Go out and have a look for yourself, trees are being felled unnecessarily.
  7. Except that it is not your wages. No one should rely on the renting out of a single property at 100% occupancy as a way to live their lives. Let's not forget, renting property is about creating HOMES for people, if you want a regular income, put your money in the bank/shares. People who rent are entitled to a home life as much as the next, yes they are before you mean people start cursing. We need a society who cares about the plight of others, who don't get rich off the back of others. Have you any idea how many homeless people there are? Have you any idea how the majority of people are a couple of short steps to homelessness. It just takes someone to run off with your pension, falling ill, needing to care for someone who is ill, being made redundant, falling behind with the mortgage/rent. Please can you just think for a second. It is always the case that you can sit down and find a solution calmly and considered. This country is only half of the country that it once was :-(
  8. Wow, a whole 20 mins... Maybe they could also set the clocks to the correct time in the machines while they update the parking signs ---------- Post added 06-10-2017 at 10:30 ---------- Because many of our elected representatives abuse their positions, and are not fit for office. Citizens are sceptical or apathetic. Democracy works when people uphold the law and act with integrity and the public servants are held to account. Exactly how many SCC councillors fail in this regard is hard to say. ---------- Post added 06-10-2017 at 10:39 ---------- I have some German student friends who have come to Sheffield to study. Words fail them when they see girls lying on the streets (West Street) due to excessive alcohol. In Germany, they would call an ambulance if they ever came across such a thing. But here the drunk girls's friends consider it nrmal and have no concerns. The worst thing about this is that the Germans were warned about the behaviour of British students and their drunken habits. How utterly shameful. This is a reality of Britain of today. What does this mean for the future, these students are our future...... What damage is this doing to their long term health? Good luck to Great Britain standing on it's own in the world.
  9. Tip of the iceberg....... Perhaps you not aware of the convictions for abuse, in the press this week, committed in South Yorkshire?
  10. It has been done in other cities in the UK, there is a way, but SCC are content to turn a blind eye, and condone abuse, they have no backbone (as can be seen with the destruction of the environment with their tree felling crusade). In the nearly 30 years that I have lived in Sheffield, I have not seen discernable change or enlightenment from SCC. SCC are the single most significant body that holds Sheffield back from being the city it could be.
  11. Erm...I am not 4 years old.......there will be no evidence that will stand up, that will justify the parking charges on a Sunday in the city centre having an overall positive contribution to SCC, the rate payers, and the retailers, it simply does not exist.
  12. :-) You have been very specific with your comments, which will hopefully result in your views being considered, however, it is a bit like the elephant in the room, SCC are failing to address the fundamental problem of the red-light sector and all that entails, in it's Sex Establishment Consultation.
  13. This SCC aren't able to use common sense, do what is right, admit that they might have got it wrong. This would be a costly exercise for them, and I don't wish SCC to spend money on a fools errand. If I had any faith in them, I would. ---------- Post added 07-02-2017 at 14:14 ---------- Please don't get personal, stick to the argument, or don't bother.
