  3. I remember going to the Alley in Birley ( at the bottom of the hill just after the lights .) in 1963 I'd just passed my test ..and petrol was 2/6 a gallon..trying to get a lane at midnight..it was the thing to do then...

  6. my father was born in Havelock Square in 1910 ...my grandfather had moved there in 1901 and I believe they had a live in maid ..he moved out in about 1925 I believe ..Its still a beautiful area and there are some fantastic houses there mainly in private hands..the main problem now seems to be the parking ...the poor students..

It is mine!!!...I have pm'd djfrase2 to thank him and to give him my phone number...I had thought I had put it away safely but...hey ho ..the best laid plans..I only discovered it when I got down to London ..came back yesterday on the coach.. It shows that there are still people about who try there best for others....and the reach of the Sheffield forum...thanks again
  8. went out for a meal last night on Sharrowvale road...lots of empty spaces at 8pm but I had to park on the single yellow line or pay 50p ..for half an hour .as an earlier poster said ..has the council got shares in Meadowhall or do they want us to have takeaways and do all our shopping on the internet..the labour group have NEVER been in favour of the car...maybe they will re introduce the man with the red flag
  9. I think I must have been one of the last passengers to alight at Victoria Station...,,In 1973 there was flooding on the Hope valley line and Midland station was closed so they ran a train.(or trains ) through the Woodhead tunnel and we got off at a very sad looking Victoria Station
