  1. Interesting topic. A lot of Blades I've met seem to think that they attract more fans from within the City, and Wednesday attract larger support from outlying areas. This may well be true, as it is impossible to know...however, I know owls from all over Sheffield, whereas the only Blades I know all tend to be from south Sheffield. I know large groups of Owls fans from Beighton, Birley, Intake, Woodhouse, Woodseats and Arbourthorne. However, I very much doubt that large groups of Blades mates come from Stocksbridge, Chap, PX, Walkley etc. (this is only my opinion). I also know many Blades from Retford, Chesterfield, Rotherham etc so this dispells the myth that they are the 'Sheffield' club. In response to the original post, the support is generally geographical, however family ties is also very relevant (although my Dad is a massive Blade and I'm a massive Owl...long story). Amongst youngsters nowadays it will obviously be more even and less about geography, but overall I think most would agree that north Sheff is Blue, South Red. with pockets all over the place.
  2. I live on Wood Road and saw the mess that morning. Most probably not related at all, but there has been lots of car crime recently around Taplin Road area. Police on have been on foot patrol 6pm - 6am several nights recently. It's a pity they werent around that night!
  3. Distasteful is the wrong word, but Monty definately comes across as bitter, and hypocritical. He goes on about respect, whilst showing none to Lines. Commenting on what league he has or hasnt played in ,commenting on the grandeur of games he has or hasnt played in:loopy: Sounds like sour grapes to me. He should get over it, who does he think he is anyway? He's hardly quality
  4. I don't disagree that he is better than lines, that's not my point. Do you think it is bitter and distateful to say the comments he has to the press? What don't you get about the 28,000 comment? If we go up this season you won't be getting anywhere near that next year, and he won't play for a better club imo
  5. Respected as Monty?? You must be joking! Lines is entitled to his opinion, as is any player for that matter! I'm not sure what Lines said to Monty, but he is a grown man and should take it like a man, not bitch to the papers like a little child! He thinks he deserves respect? Every comment he made about Lines was completely personal and inappropriate, but I'm sure Lines won't be complaining because he is an ADULT! Monty obviously thinks he is too good for this division, and obviously thinks he is above Lines. He should learn that he is past his best, and I don't think bragging that he has played in front of bigger crowds etc will help his cause, because if we go up this season, it will be a long time before he plays in front of 28,000 again
  6. Alex, this is not just about one or two comments. The fact that you have a quote from akpo sodje and an owl avatar speaks volumes. The reason I stopped using this forum previously is because its not a forum for football anymore, it is used by people who have too much time on their hands who have an axe to grind. Your thoughts?
  7. we were silenced in the first half, as youd expect! But 2nd half I thought our fans were brilliant, still bitter then? Obsessed with us, why?
  8. That's quite typical of the blades fans I know. Hate owls at least as much as they love utd. It must be some sort of inferiority complex because I also love wednesday much more than I dislike utd.
  9. I love a bit of banter, my old man is a lifelong blades season ticket holder and I'm an owl. But you lot are OBSESSED! Reading some of your comments reminds me of being back in the school yard. It is so obvious you are bitter people who blatantly hate wednesday more than you love blades
  10. not out for an argument at all mate, I think you are getting worke up over nothing. I've agreed with you that we are both in pretty dire circumstances for clubs of our size and history, and have both fallen on hard times. To come back and stop you winning today meant alot to us because let's face it, there arent that many big games for us both to enjoy these days. If you think it's over the top to show passion like we did at the end then fair enough, but if you had come back from 2-0 down at hillsborough in the last 10 minutes, then I would expect blades fans to go equally mental! It doesnt matter what league we are in, we are both proud clubs who admit it or not dislike each other bitterly. Hope that clears things up, was not looking for an argument whatsoever
  11. This is brilliant, are you saying we were too passionate?
  12. In footballing terms, you're right. We are in the thrid tier and have drawn. But it is a derby which makes it more than just a point, because of the occasion and the way in we which we came back. In response to your comments about wednesday fans celebrations being over the top, I completely disagree. I think if we are capable as fans of showing that much passion, why hold back? I only wish we were that passionate for every game and make hillsborough a cauldron (which I hate to admit is often not the case)
  13. I rarely post on the forum nowadays as it becomes too stressful at times, but I thought the OP asks an interesting question. I went to the game today (on the away end), and went into the ground thinking (for the first time in years) that we would win. Not really sure why, but went into the game on the back of some great wins, and believed we could win. Then to be 2 goals down after 20 mins, I must admit, came as a bit of a shock! Then fears of a massacre crept in and I was just hoping for half-time to come. When we came out fighting in the 2nd half I felt as though an owls goal was inevitable. We left it too late in the end, but I think another 20 mins on the clock and we could have snatched it. Basically, to come back like that right at the end against your biggest rivals is a fantastic feeling. Ok, we didn't win but we took away your win (which I must admit is pathetically just as important in derby games as I see it). To wipe the smug grins of the faces of blades fans who were across from us was what passionate games like that are all about. And I'm sure blades revel in that when they have come back to nick points in the past. I thought overall that it wasn't a pretty game, but end to end for most part and plenty of controversy. Outside the ground left a lot to be desired for lots of wednesdayites, some of them were hell bent on causing trouble which ended up getting out of hand when walking over the subways, but some things will never change.
  14. I'm at work on Charter Row, can see smoke and hear fire engines. Seems to be a large fire towards Hannover Way, anyone know anything?
