  1. Sheffield Forum struggled in front of goal for the first time in months as they went down to Cobden View in the Junior Challenge Cup. Talisman Shane Spence was unavailable this weekend so the return of Liam Wales was more than welcomed, Nathan Jenkins replaced Thomas Hunaishi who started as sub in this one. Forum have never been given, what would be considered, an easy draw in the County Challenge Cup first round and this one was certainly the toughest of them all. Cobden View, a former Imperial League Premier side, were this seasons draw and they took an early lead when a quick free kick caught the defence sleeping leaving the forward to go through on goal and score. Forum though attacked afterward but didn't play with the fluidity or accuracy of recent weeks but one move nearly paid off as the attack was built from midfield, finally coming out to Mitchell Dunne on the right. His ball across goal found the incoming Wales just yards from goal only for him to miss hit the ball and send it wide. Cobden View then made it 2-0 and Forum again went into self destruct mode and soon added a third prompting a couple of changes to tighten things up. Forum next attack saw Steven Morris run in on goal but his lob of the keeper didn't carry enough conviction. Wales saw a well hit free kick sail just over the bar whilst Shane Middlebrook shot just wide of the upright. Forum were struggling infront of goal with so many players having an 'off day' but keeper Callum Hall was keeping them in it at the other end with some great reaction saves. HT: Cobden View 3-0 Sheffield Forum The second half basically summed up the first as Forum lost the ball from kick off and found themselves defending straight away. No danger in the end this time but it was a warning. Forum though did strike first in the second half as Dunne turned his defender just inside the left corner of the area and was brought down. Daniel Sheedy stepped up and put away the penalty to leave a 2 goal difference and half an hour remaining. Struggling still, chances came and went for both sides but Dunne had the chance to pull another back as he pulled away from his marker only for the keeper to stop his shot. It was not to be though and with five minutes left, the decision was made to just go for it by playing 3 at the back. 2 goals were needed in 5 minutes but it was the home team that scored the 2 giving them a 5-1 win, a scoreline that was maybe a little harsh on Sheffield Forum but on the other hand, they know they didn't turn up today. Back to league action on Sunday against The Bridge Inn on Parson Cross Park. Three points is the aim but we will have to get our finishing boots back on! Team: Hall, Brownhill, Jenkins, Scothorne, Davison, Dunne, Wales, Middlebrook, Gray, Morris, Sheedy. Subs: Hunaishi, Gayle, Gladwin, Tyler, Proctor (Rolling subs)
  2. Lost 5-1 lol 3-1 down with 5 to go so went for it...trying to pull 2 back and they scored twice instead. Decent side Cobden but missed a few golden chances!
  3. Sheffield Forum claimed a comprehensive win over Merry Monk to make it 2 wins from 2. Nathan Jenkins was ruled out with an injury he sustained at the end of last weekends match so Callum Davison made his first start as Aiden Brownhill made his debut replacing Tapiwa Mabaya who was unavailable. Tom Gray picked up a midweek strain so was named as a sub to try and ensure a full strength side next weekend. Last seasons top scorer Daniel Sheedy was given a starting role in his place. Merry Monk kicked off and straight away tried to catch Forum keeper Callum Hall out with a shot from the centre spot. The shot cleared the bar but Hall took a knock as he watched it over, luckily though he was ok to continue after a short break. Just minutes later and Forum took the lead after good work by Mitchell Dunne to keep the ball in and pass his maker. He hit it low across goal towards Shane Spence only for the defender to turn it into his own net. Five minutes later it was 2-0 from a similar position. Spence kept in a long cross, dinked it back into the middle and Daniel Sheedy was there to take a touch before hitting it past the keeper. This time, just three minutes later, Jordan Gladwin cooly put away a third. Steven Morris played an excellent ball into the box for Gladwin to direct past the hapless goalkeeper. A brief lapse allowed Monk to pull one back less than five minutes after that but a 3 goal advantage was restored on the twenty minute mark. Matthew Scothorne spotted Morris free from a free kick and played him in to score his first goal for the club. After a mad first quarter, the game settled a little but that did not mean there was no action. Shane Middlebrook hit a shot just wide from outside the area, Morris tried to lob the keeper as he was put through but couldn't lift it high enough. Middlebrook then had a goal disallowed as he slid in for a ball just yards out, his touch came back off a defender before hitting his arm and going over the line. The referee ruled it out for handball. Spence and Sheedy both had chances and Dunne shot straight at the keeper. At the other end, Monk had less opportunities but struck a couple of shots from outside the area without troubling Hall. Another goal was to come in the first half though and just a few minutes before the whistle went for half time. Aiden Brownhill played the ball wide to Dunne who ran from inside his own half, down the wing with Spence in the middle. Dunne continued his run and decided to go alone and netted with a confident strike for his second goal of the season. HT: Sheffield Forum 5-1 Merry Monk Forum started full of confidence in the second half with no intention of letting this game slip. Monk started breaking faster and playing more direct whilst Forum played tighter, smaller passes however it was a direct ball that led to a sixth. Brownhill knocked the ball crossfield to Sheedy who brought the ball down, cut inside of his man and hit a sweet shot into the bottom corner from outside the area. Few minutes later and it was seven as Sheffield Forum played some good football in Monks half of the pitch. Spence received the ball on the corner of the area, played a good 1-2 with Sheedy just outside the box and struck the ball well into the corner. It took two more minutes for him to double his tally as Tom Gray knocked the ball to Spence, he beat his marker and smashed home. At 8-1, a few changes were made but the chances kept coming. The final Forum goal came as Ashley Proctor was brought down in the area on the right and with Sheedy having being replaced, Spence took the chance to claim his first competitive hat trick for Sheffield Forum. Monk were not quite finished though and they added another consolation on 80 minutes. It was a good performance from the team to make it two wins from two at the start of the season as we now look to the Junior Challenge Cup competition next Sunday. We play Cobden View in a tough draw but a nice pitch where we will be confident of causing an upset with a few players due to return. Team: Hall, Brownhill (Nettleship), Hunaishi, Scothorne, Davison, Gladwin, Morris (Gray), Dunne (Gill), Middlebrook, Sheedy (Proctor), Spence.
  4. Finally the first game of the season was here! In the 16 man squad were several new faces as Callum Hall, Tapiwa Mabaya, Thomas Hunaishi, Matthew Scothorne, Steven Morris, Mitchell Dunne and Shane Spence all started for their competitve debuts with Dale Williams, Ashley Tyler and Callum Davison made theirs as a sub. Forum made a slower start to the game than they wanted but had more play than The Abbey who are new the league. Abbey looked to play long and twice went close, hitting the bar on one occasion. Forum built up play well but really struggled to threaten despite several corners. However it was from a corner Forum took the lead. Tom Gray swung in the cross and as pressure was put on 2 Abbey players, one of them deflected into his own net. Five minutes later and Shane Spence was found by Shane Middlebrook and Spence continued where he left off from pre season with another goal. Forum were on top and Gray should have got on the scoresheet but shot straight at the Abbey goalkeeper whilst Middlebrook and youngster Mitchell Dunne both had shots saved. With 5 minutes remaining of the half, Abbeys long ball paid off as the forward broke clear and slotted home to halve the deficit. HT: Sheffield Forum 2-1 The Abbey Second half, Forum were ready to take the game to their opponents but struggled for a little while. Keeper Callum Hall made some good stops including an excellent diving catch to deny Abbey pulling level. The introduction of a couple of substitutes freshened things up but it was Dunne who was the liveliest. He charged down the left, into the box and was brought down for a penalty. Last seasons top scorer Daniel Sheedy collected the ball and placed it perfectly in the corner. Sheedy later dinked a good ball for Spence to chase, he beat the keeper to the ball and lifted it over into the net for a 4-1 scoreline and basically round off the game. Good battling performance with good football played at times inspired by man of the match and team captain Shane Middlebrook who started up front before moving to midfield and defence as Nathan Jenkins unfortunately suffered an injury leaving Forum down to 10 players for the final 5 minutes. Next week we face Merry Monk (Staffordshire Arms) on Herdings Park, 11am kick off. Team: Hall, Mabaya, Scothorne, Hunaishi (Davison), Jenkins, Dunne (Tyler), Gray (Proctor), Gladwin (Williams), Morris, Middlebrook, Spence (Sheedy).
  5. Cobden View, was in our Prem and now Blades Super Draw. Nice pitch though!
  6. Its been a busy pre season but finally the time everyone has been waiting for is here...the start of the Sunday football season! We have had some big changes to our squad over the summer with a quality keeper joining just in time for our first friendly. We Came back late in June and took a squad of players to a first friendly to stretch the legs at the end of the month after only 2 training sessions. Since then, we have grown in strength to the point where it is difficult to name a 16 for the first game. We have players across the park that have come together well as we look to have a successful season. Again, players work different shifts so we will not be able to have a settled starting side so places are constantly up for grabs every week. We begin at home on Herdings Park against The Abbey, kicking off at 11am. In the Junior Challenge Cup we have been handed a tough draw away to Cobden View on the 15th at Niagara Sports Ground and will play Chapeltown Prince in the League Cup first round, date TBC. All our fixtures are on a sticky thread in our section and updated as and when they are added. Good luck to all teams for the season on this forum, unless you come up against us! Not long to go now!!
  7. Haha oh yeah...copied from last season! lol Tough draw in FA cup again! Always land an awkward one in that lol
  8. Anyone for a game tonight? Probably looking at a 6.45ish kick off
  9. If only it was that easy...everybody would be in work! Student Pass...Student Saver. Different things sold in different places. Got out of date saver? Yeah sell another one...got out of date pass issued in bus station? Full fare. Kind of makes sense. Same if they ain't got money for a saver again. Bit of common sense!? Can see you love bus drivers! ---------- Post added 16-08-2013 at 12:09 ---------- :hihi:
  10. This says it all really! People expecting more than a driver can give. When you have been a bus driver, then comment! Because half the things I read, I can see why the driver has done it. Certain rules and regulations that need to be followed yet can make the driver seem like a real pratt! You go to a shop, get served and the only things the cashier says is the price. Doesn't smile...do you complain on here about it? No. Because you know its someone who is working, probably doesn't want to be working there and then but is making a living. Same with bus drivers and anybody else but then a thread appears on here about the bus drivers as they're easy targets. Just get on with it! You probably don't want to be on that bus as much as they don't!
  11. Who you with again? We might now be available but Im waiting on another team still so can't confirm anything yet.

  14. I'm pretty sure the pitch is council owned, all those at the back of the Thorncliffe. I think that it was they meant as you would need to go through David Judge for that. If you haven't already, it could throw another spanner in the works as I can only get Concord or Graves Park for friendlies! Thorncliffe will pay the council for the pitch same as other teams do in the area. Thorncliffe pub will offer to host it but they have no responsibility over the pitch, neither do Sheffield FA. Best check!
