  1. I think the "tax paying public" have a lot more to worry about than self employed people who work and pay tax for a living.
  2. Or you can just phone up and say you want an appointment to sit a CSCS test but need a CSCS number right away, they take your details and give you a number. Give that number to your future employers, they phone up the CSCS people and check your details and bingo you are on site.
  3. CIS card is free from the Taxation office, I got mine in Rotherham near the bus station. CSCS card you have to pay for, I dont know how much though because the company I was subbying to at the time paid for it. You have to sit a multiple choice test, 30 questions mostly H&S at a place in Sheffield where you sit your driving test.
  4. I think most people are missing the point. There is one word that describes all the new high rises going up in Sheffield and that is "Money". It has got nothing to do with population increase or decrease, married, not married, kids, no kids, it is how much money can we make out of this block of land. Sheffield has been passed for bigger inner city height restrictions for accomodation so everybody with a few million are jumping on the band wagon. I get paid to build these appartment blocks, and I put in 100 percent effort and all my skill into making them nice, but as time goes on and architects realize they have f***ed up, the job starts getting behind, the building company starts to loose money, then the job goes to pot. Corners get cut everybody blames everybody else and the work gets shoddy. This is only going to get worse too because companies are undercutting each other to get the contract, and putting ridiculous time frames on completion. Then, half way through the job they realize , they are going to have to pay penalties because the job is not going to be finished on time so again the job goes to pot. A lot of these appartments I have built are spacious especially the penthouses but most of them are not aimed at 1 single person living in them. Kitchen, lounge, 2 or 3 bedrooms, bathroom. I would say these are aimed at rich students or business people who want to share, maybe even the business man or woman who stay in the city during the week and go home for the weekends. I cant see these places becoming tenements, all the new student accomodation though is a different story.
  5. I went yesterday and it was absolutely packed, Only stayed for 90 minutes though because I was bursting to go to the toilet and there is no toilets there, (serves me right for having 2 cans of coke on the way). The seals are great and come right up to the fence. It is better to stand next to little kids though if taking photos because the Kids mimick the seals, which causes the seals to look, so you get the photo of the seal looking at you. The wierd thing is, they look so sad and sound so sad too. I have put up a couple of photo's on my web site, with more to come. I am going again next weekend so I can stay longer but I am definately going earlier. I have read the seals are there from the end of October to the end of December. Unfortunately it will not let me put my website up until I have 15 or more posts.
