  1. Hi, I have exactly the same problems with bins being reported as too heavy and not being emptied. I also got the same response from veolia that its up to the crew to decide, no weight limit can be specified, someone might get killed if the bin falls off, etc, etc I am determined to take this further - we are being made to pay for a poor service. As they say its a 'health and safety' issue, I've asked the HSE to look into this issue of not specifying a weight limit. Also logged a call with my MP - no response yet. Manager from Veolia should have called me back - no response yet. I could do with some help to persue this, theres a few things look investigate, anyone interested in helping get us a better service? pm me if you are able to help.
  2. I have a 92' Rx7 FD3S, had it for 5 years, thinking of selling.....
  3. There's another angle to this and a damn good reason why the PDSA are so good. I've had cats and dogs for the last 30 years plus, only for a short while was I unlucky enough to be on benefits and having run out of money at the local vets, was refferred to the PDSA - what a diffrence in the approach to treatment! They did what was needed, nothing more, saved my cat having a totally un-necessary op. I am always aware now when I go to a normal vets where I have to pay, that they always have one eye on the cash till - think about it, how many times have you taken your dog, cat or whatever to the vet and NOT had an anti-biotic shot before leaving??? Care for animals is much better when profit is taken out of the equation!
  4. I dont like the service at meadow head, so use Morrisons down the hill. The other stuff they sell is very expensive also.
  5. I've had Virgin broadband for years, reliable and fast, not THE cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Mines on cable, not sure what the copper equvalent is like down the phone wires.
  6. I can also confirm that there is no immediate threat of closure of Bishops house. As the statement says from Meg Munn, Sheffield has to save £172k from its budget for Museums and Bishops house is ONE of our Museums so may have to take a cut. All of this came from the staff I spoke to on Saturday when I visited, its just a short walk for me. That said, the best support we can all give is to go and visit, especially if if does turn out the hours will be cut or closed all together. Not a day out, but well worth a trip.
  7. Oh the stories I could tell about Gilders....... Now, for most of my driving life I had little money to spend on cars, so by necessity have become quite a good mechanic over the years. Laterly I have had better cars and four years ago bought a nice Passat 2.5 Tdi Highline Tiptronic, and so the fun with Gilders began! First service. Always expensive and they sort of wash the car.....drive car home, but every time I put my foot down fills the road with white smoke - oh no not the turbo, some head scratching, check oil level - mmmm, right up to the top of the orange plastic level indicator. Call Gilders explain symtoms - "I think you have over filled the oil", "OK bring it back". I take the car back and the guy in charge of the workshop checks the oil - "Thats where it is supposed to be", I appologise and humbley go home, smoke continues. Then I get the owners manual out and find a picture of the dipstick, guess what they deffinately overfilled it! I go back again somewhat red faced. They agree and do the oil change again...... Not a good start, can't they even change the oil? Good news is next service is free as a result. Time soon comes round for the next service...un-eventfull, except 2 days later driving down the motor way another driver flags me to pull over - "the under tray just fell off your car" - call Gilders, not happy "you just serviced my car and didn't fasten the undertray on" aaaagh! They replace it for free. mmmmm....these money saving variable services the car 'tells' me it needs, keep coming up at 9000 miles. Now the book says 12 to 17k can be achieved, I admit I am not exactly a Christian driver, but most of the time is spent on the motorway and you can only go as fast as the traffic flow, so it doesn't make sense. And you need need the very expensive 'Long life' oil at £90!, better to switch to the cheap standard fixed servicing at 10,000 miles???? which only needs the standard PD oil. I discuss this with service, they agree it will need less servicing and be fine on the standard PD oil. Goes in for the next service, mmmmm....this doesn't seem to be any cheaper, thats because they still put Long Life oil in at £90! ' "oh, yes, we always put that in". I guess thats the marketing department interferring in service. Two days later, undertray gets bored again and runs away. I decide Gilders and undertrays don't mix and don't bother to replace it this time. And so it goes on, every time it goes for a service I am full of trepadation wondering what's in store this time. Eventually the time comes to sell the Passat, to be fair it now has 158,000 motorway miles, 80k down to me, and while it has a full VAG history, I'm bored and want a change. I try trading the Passat on a couple of cars, both dealers soon ask, "has it had a cambelt?", no its due at 160k, another reason to sell!. So being the fair chap I am, I think, ok I will get the cambelt done and then sell privately, the extra premium over the trade in price should cover the cambelt. I call around for a few prices, £400 ish seems about the norm for a V6 Tdi, but wait, Gilders have a special offer on!!! Half price cambelts, so thats £200, no wait this is Gilders, that will be £250 then. So I book it in for this bargain offer anyway. Car goes in, I have a loan car and travel away for the day. That afternoon they call me "unfortunately your water pump is leaking, we advise you change it while its in pieces", "how much is that then?", "the part is £118 plus £250 labour" "£250 labour!! You already have the car in pieces, if you move your office chair in front of the car, you will be staring straight at it, un-encomberred by any obstruction as you had to remove all that to get the cambelt off!" "oh, let me check with the mechanic" "30 minuites labour" -even that seems too much to take four bolts out and swap the part, but I agree on condition that I can have the old pump back for inspection. I go to collect the car the next day and ask for the pump, "that will have been thrown out sir", "no, I specifically asked to see it, yesterday", "I will go and check" Comes back with water pump, looks in pristine condition to me, no play in the shaft, no sign of a leak. "if you look round the shaft sir, you can see the pink staining from the coolant" I can't see anything, but what can I do, its a bit too late to complain now. On the way home, I remember, I changed the coolant myself about 6 months ago, and its not on G12 (the VAG stuff thats pink), its on some other stuff thats Green! Coolant stains my arse! I drive home with a wry smile, yes, they got me again, but its the last time I will dance with the Gilders group, as a buyer is coming soon I hope. I put the car on Ebay and get a good offer within a couple of days which I take happily. Bye bye Passat, bye, bye Gilders. Hope you are happy in your new multi million pound showroom at Meadowhead and that they can afford to take you all off short time soon.... A couple of weeks after the sale, I sent an email to VAG UK: "Thanks to the 'service' from Gilders Sheffield, I now drive a BMW" Its been a year now, still waiting for a response.... If you look at most of the people sitting around in the service waiting room at Gilders, most of them are company car drivers, who don't give a monkies if the companies leg gets lifted, so for me, my 330D looked after mostly by me, Pete Bell (Beemer specialist) and Quarry Motors is a much better and cheaper to run car.
  8. Don't worry about what version of XP you are loading - once its installed, just run all the windows updates until it says there are no more, then its fully upto date. One important note though - before you trash it for the new install, go to the makers website and download all the drivers, otherwise you may find you cant get the network and therefor web access working again. cheers
  9. Other problem with chainsaws and springy trees is when you slip and chop your leg off instead. I'd go and buy a 'Bow saw@ from B&Q or somwhere, fraction of the price and will only cause a flesh wound instead.
  10. Sorry guys, I'm droppin out for tonight, had a very bad day. I'll be along to the next one though. cheers Jim
  11. That would be great, thank you very much.:D:D
  12. Hi, I would love to join in on Tuesday 26th also please, so put me down, Jim that is.
  13. Hi, I flew with Dragon from bakewell, got a lovely 1.5 hour flight, which they say is more than virgin fly for (unless someone wants to tell me diffrent), anyway I enjoyed it so much I joined Nottingham Hot air balloon club, and for the price of one pleasure flight you can fly at least 5 times a year - i'm really enjoying it.
  14. We went to see this last night and enjoyed it very much. I think it was very accurate to the tv series and Wilson had all the attributes of the original character. As I've recently joined Next Best Thing Productions and have a minor part in there production of 'Mirandolina' I really enjoy seeing other amateur dramatics perform.
