  1. https://www.newsweek.com/us-give-iran-150-billion-barack-obama-jack-posobiec-1835083 "The U.S. did not "give" $150 billion to Iran in 2015. In 2015, as part of an international deal with Iran called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran agreed to cut back on nuclear enrichment programs in exchange for the unfreezing of its own assets."
  2. Well I suppose we can be thankful it wasn't a Trump bible - or was Truss signaling she needs another two goes to really finally sink the UK economy ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  3. The Head seems to have a rather individual take on "secular"; https://www.newstatesman.com/comment/2024/04/michaela-school-ban-prayer-ruling-katharine-birbalsingh She is keen to stress that secularism is not the absence of all faith, but the search for a uniting value. โ€œWe sing โ€˜God Save the Kingโ€™ because our country and our flag unites us,โ€ she says. How is that different from a CofE school? /?
  4. From what I can gather, it appears any school receiving state funding should provide a "daily act of worship" under the terms of the 1998 Education Act. https://humanists.uk/education/parents/collective-worship-and-school-assemblies-your-rights/ โ€œโ€ฆeach pupil in attendance at a community, foundation or voluntary school shall on each school day take part in an act of collective worship.โ€
  5. Plus the chance of Iran, Yemen or Israel ruling the world in the the foreseeable is zero.
  6. This is Sheffield Forum - probably one of the last assumptions I'd make.
  7. When I'm in Sheffield, a visit to the Red Deer on Pitt Street. Must be one of a handful of Sheffield pubs that have served consistently good hand pulled beer since the days before CAMRA. Nigh on 50 years ago to the first time I went there. Glad the toilets aren't still outside across the yard though.
  8. Looks like its a cocktail bar / diner these days. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186364-d15351369-Reviews-Lost_Found_Sheffield-Sheffield_South_Yorkshire_England.html
  9. Wasn't the club called "Dom Polska"? White letters on a purple background if memory serves. First flat I had in Sheffield in the mid 70's wasn't far away (Eastgrove Road) and my landlady was Polish (lived round the corner on Thompson Road) - back then a decent sized Polish community in the area.
  10. Lane 2 is clearly marked "straight on" for City before the image you showed. https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3850761,-1.4529519,3a,75y,266.24h,91.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXPRhA3UuahL8pfkaglhOBQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu
  11. Or customers are paying over the odds ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  12. Apart from the boozers and the Baths, can't remember owt going back as long. Lad I used to play football with back in the late 80's used to work for them.
  13. Red , white and blue stripes to represent the two footy teams with a ball in the center (white / yellow / orange?) to denote the place whre modern football was founded.
  14. Really interesting link Jim. Don't think many folk today realise that in 1901 Sheffield had a population of 450k crammed in to a space roughly N to S Hillsboyough Corner to Bramall Lane and E to W beginning of Attercliffe to Broomhill. No council estates existed then and very few private suburbs. Still remember the huge amount of buildings blackened by smoke when we moved here in the late 60's - probably most prominent were Town Hall, Cathedral and St Mary's on the roundabout near the Lane.
