Another cycle lane thread - Bramall Lane
ceallachan replied to Eater Sundae's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
All cycle lanes have been added as an afterthought. I don't think they are wide enough. They need to be double the size and allow for two way traffic. There should also be some kind of verge also, in-between the "cycle road" and the "motor-vehicle road". As it stands all cycle lanes are dangerous. -
The roads of today aren't safe for cyclists. If there are designated cycle lanes then they should be used. Accidents on roads happen - FACT. A two tonne car versus cyclist is no competition - FACT. With those FACTs in mind, you wouldn't catch me cycling on our roads. Ideally if we could go back in time and redo all the roads again, we'd make em twice as wide, with a nice big cycle lane. If the government want people to use cycles they should make this happen.

Why would anyone be proud to be British?
ceallachan replied to 2wentypence's topic in General Discussions
You mention "back in the old days", well, Britain conquered far more and had a huge empire well before the United States even existed. in the 11th century we crusaded against the moslem turks. I don't get your point on this one. As far as i can see, we're the same now as we ever were, just far less powerful. If only we could go back to the "old days" -
David Coulthard, according to my brother apparently.

Which car do you own and are you satisfied with it?
ceallachan replied to Sony's topic in General Discussions
Hi have a Seat Leon Cupra TDI Great performance 150bhp, 0-60 8.6 secs 60 Mpg (avg 50mpg even when thrashing it) Handles like a dream, sticks to the road Cheap Road Tax £110 for year Relatively Cheap Insurance Stunning Looks I love the car, best thing i've ever owned. -
I think its down to where I live. I tell them High Green, they put £3-4 on the price. Its now Thursday and I'm still fuming. Thinking about it, we should have got out when he asked for money up front. Won't make that mistake again. Seems a few rogue taxi drivers are giving black cabs a bad reputation. Years ago, when were allowed to flag a private cab in Sheffield City Centre, they were a lot cheaper and got you home quicker.

Are pet owners happier than most people ?
ceallachan replied to pattricia's topic in General Discussions
The only down side to pets is when they pass away. We had five cats (many started as strays) Rumpus, Boris, Ginerling, Slag and Tubs. They were amazing, always entertaining, always up to something and although cats don't normally get on very well together, there seemed to be a peace with our five cats. We lost four of our five cats in the space of one year, mainly due to liver and kidney failures, but two were very old anyway. Now Tubs is the only one left and I can't help but think she might be lonely. Eventually, you don't see your pets as animals anymore, they become almost human, they throw tantrums, sulk, get excited, they can be moody and disruptive. They become part of the family, and it hurts like hell when they go. -
I'm from High Green, I have a common northern accent.
