  1. Rofl, well i can certainly say that some of the replies have been a bit of an eye opener and this thread is now in danger of becoming another of the "slag off the kids" type of threads so lets be a bit clearer then. What about people who don`t mind kids but just don`t want them in their face ( or ears) 24/7 People who do not want to live in the city centre in a flat but further afield in a small house. People who don`t have children yet but may wish to once their career is sorted. People who work shifts and want to be able to sleep in the day in peace and quiet, and one of the most important reasons as far as i`m concerned, the people who have either lost a child or been told they cannot bear any and are upset when they cannot escape and live life without having it rammed down their throats evry minute. Not everyone is 'opposed' to children but some have good reasons for not wanting to do the child thing constantly, especially when they don`t have any.
  2. If a new estate was built in Sheffield and the only people allowed to buy a property on it were people without kids would you jump at the chance? Of course there would be people who would have to sell up and move on should they decide to start a family but there would also be people who would never have any intention of starting a family too so it may seem like their ideal place to live. After reading all about the disturbances caused in some areas would this be a solution for people who just want peace and quiet?
  3. Thanks ! That explains why most of them i`ve been looking at have a rating of E!
  4. I`m not sure if this is the right place for this question but as the title says What`s a Maff rating? I`m looking for a new microwave and they all seem to have this followed by a letter, if it`s something like energy efficiency which letter is better? I`m really out of touch as my last microwave has just given up after over 18 years so i hope someone out there is in the know.
  5. This is also something i`m looking at having done maybe next year, a door bricked up to become an window and a window becoming a door, i have lots of plumbing to sort out first though Thanks for the replies, it`s made me think a bit more about the patio doors. Hope you find someone good to do your work Muran, let us know how you get on.
  6. On a slightly related note does anyone know whats involved (or if it`s possible) to replace a bay window with patio doors and still retain the sticky outy bit (due to bay above)?
  7. I find a lot of the channels are like this, if it was up to me i`d probably just bin the lot.
  8. Our sky (and i`m sure most peoples) has trouble in the snow but is unaffected by rain unless it`s an exceptionally bad storm, the freeview however isn`t as robust and has problems in heavy rain. Sometimes the picture goes black & white and sometimes goes altogether. There`s deffo a storm nearby the wind has got up and it`s cold and it`s now going a lot darker.
  9. My sky`sfine but all the freeview channels have disappeared altogether, it`s gone a bit dull outside and it`s trying to rain, maybe there`s a storm somewhere.
  10. Ah thanks, i didn`t realise that , i`ve also got a software firewall which used to mean all my ports were in "stealth" mode and couldn`t be seen, now i`m no longer using the usb modem i`ve just left it installed and i`m using the one on the linksys hardware as an additional layer. I`ll nip off and do a check.
  11. Right i think i`ve found it now, i`ve put all the info in and ticked enable, fingers crossed When my pals online again soon i`ll give it a try. Thanks both of you!
  12. Thanks, i`ll have a nosy at it in a few mins
  13. I`ve got a linksys wag354g access gateway on my pc, i`ve not had it long and it has a built in firewall etc, before this i had a bog standard usb modem. I need to connect to another pc for remote assistance and i`ve found i need to set up something called port forwading for my gateway to enable it through the firewall. ( i could be wrong on this completely of course but i`m learning ) Does anyone know how i do this? I`ve searched the linksys site which seems to have everything else except for what i need
  14. oo ta! wish i`d seen it. You`ve put my mind at rest now it was startin to bug me!
  15. Shame it dosen`t mention Sheffield for the extra money though They`ve been missing from our area for a while but yesterday they were back on the roads and the pavements all around the Birley/ Frecheville area.
