  1. Yeah, the Manhattan crowd are a good one but it's a good idea to go there 'off peak' to avoid standing around. Shows that they must be doing something right, eh?
  2. Perhaps a fun game if anyone has a minute... Assuming they didn't tell you the name of the roads where the houses were on the show last night, see if you can guess using the website. http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/location/location_sheffield2007.html
  3. Ah, I remember back in the day my friends and I used to dress in dark hooded clothing and creep around the bypass bridge lower down near the steelworks. I know of at least one 'sighting' that was later dispelled at school the following day. Oh to be young and stupid again. As opposed to old and stupid as I am now.
  4. Hello all. I'm looking to get the starter rewound for my aging (but beloved) 1984 VW Campervan. I've heard rumours of somewhere on the Wicker that does such things but I was wondering if any Forumers knew of somewhere that they could recommend. Many thanks.
  5. The West 10 bar and Bull's Head pub seems to attract the owners of the cars and as regards their profession I've no idea. Sheffield does have a lot of affluent types and I often wonder where the money comes from; the big employers of the civil service and the university are not well known for their inflated wages! Apart from HSBC we don't have that much high end I.T. or finance, or am I just being ignorant?
  6. Is that the top of Bingham park or am I getting senile in my old age?
  7. Yes, you're right; I realised I wanted to make that point just after submitting my post. So you're condoning the complete blocking of one side of the pavement so people can keep an eye on their car or to prevent them having to walk 10 minutes from where they parked it? Imagine I was in a wheelchair, what then?
  8. I'd a feeling someone would bring me up on this and I'm not going to get into the discussion of how much money I have versus how much I would like to have as this was the point of the post. The fact that they're very expensive cars serves to emphasize the point that their owners could clearly absorb the taxi fare even if it was to Hathersage or Grindelford or similar. And, before I forget, there is a lot of parking behind the Bull's Head/West 10 on Ranmoor Crescent and Ranmoor Road but they simple *must* park on the double yellows to compare underpant volume.
  9. A little rantlet I've been waiting to get off my chest. Every Friday and Saturday nights Fulwood Road is reduced to almost 1 lane outside of the Bull's Head and West 10 pubs/bars in Ranmoor by people parking all over the pavement and road which, to compound the sin, has double yellow lines. This, in turn, reduces the pavement to single file or, at times, blocks it off entirely meaning one has to take ones chances in the middle of the road when making the jolly stroll to the (infinitely superior) Ranmoor Inn. Every once in a while the cops show up and ticket everyone but the majority of these cars are £50k+ sports and SUV mobiles to which the £30 fine probably represents about half a tank of fuel to the owners. What *really* gets up my nose is that these people probably drive home at the end of the night significantly over the limit; they could easily afford a taxi but require the bragging rights of having their shiny Teutonic phallus within line of sight to the bar. And breathe.
  10. The café at the Foundry climbing centre now has free wireless internet access.
  11. OK, I feel guilty now. I do actually work for CragX and the Foundry so that post may have not been completely impartial. That said, I do think we offer the best stock and if you want to come down and discuss what you're after I'll be working 12-8 this Sunday.
  12. I buy all my stuff from CragX at the Foundry on Mowbray street. If you become a member of the Foundry you can also get 10% off! I think they've got a bit of a sale on some of their clothing, too. In any case, very friendly bunch and they really know their stuff. I've had all sorts of problems at CCC before with their staff not knowing their proverbial from their elbows. You might try the UKClimbing forums but I tend to avoid other peoples second hand stuff. I prefer to know the history of my kit. I have enough on my mind when the strength begins to fade on some horrendous slopey holds to also be concerned as to whether the second hand RP I placed just now will hold a 20 foot whipper....
  13. Thanks for all the replies. Sadly, it appears S&M's exotic meat suppliers have gone under so no alligator, crocodile or any other weird meats. Looks like the peeps'll have to make do with chicken after all. This certainly is turning into a toothy problem. I do hope a solution presents itself to tip the scales....
  14. Hello everyone. I have been commissioned by my friends to cook alligator this Saturday. I'd heard that one of the butchers on Eccy Road (near the Banner Cross pub) stocked crocodile so I had hoped he'd be able to furnish me with the meat but unfortunately he's out of both croc and 'gator. Does anybody know of anywhere within about 15 miles of Sheffield that stocks alligator/crocodile? Many thanks.
