  1. Misuse of the Blue Badge is a criminal offence and the maximum penalty is £1000. However, the precise position when parking on private land is not too clear and depends on the particular circumstances. Some councils are very keen on enforcing the regulations and withdraw the badge in cases of misuse as well as prosecution of the offenders. The regulations for use are perfectly clear - the concessions of the Blue Badge are for the badge holder only and in person. http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/the-blue-badge-parking-scheme I was in charge of car parking at a large hospital group and parking for the disabled was always a problem. In the end we moved all such parking spaces to very near the hospital clinic entrances and all other parking to more remote locations and then rigorously enforced the parking regulations. Several persons lost their blue badges as a consequence. As a final point the blue badge enables parking in specific conditions. It does not entitle a person to park free of charge, this is a concession and not a right.
  2. If a person is being pestered by phone calls and feels threatened or frightened, there might be something of a remedy here: Protection from Harassment Act 1997 The PHA makes it a criminal offence to pursue a course of conduct which amounts to harassment of a person http://www.yourrights.org.uk/yourrights/privacy/harassment-unwanted-letters-and-telephone-calls/protection-from-harassment-act-1997.shtml http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1997/40/contents To quote from the first reference: " This is a very important piece of legislation which can potentially provide protection in neighbourhood disputes, cases of racial harassment, bullying at work, confrontation with the media or stalking, as well as hate mail and persistent unwanted telephone calls. The PHA can also potentially apply in cases of domestic abuse".
  3. Rehau are supposed to be a very good product. Several suppliers of this make in Sheffield. http://www.rehauhome.com/
  4. Sheffield is now so far behind the pack that it cannot catch up. As a major rated UK city it is finished.
  5. With two "Malls" in Leeds why would they bother? As a regular user of the Sheffield-Leeds Service it is interesting how many of what seem to be shoppers boarding at Barnsley go north to Leeds compared to the numbers going south to Sheffield. Not a scientific study, but by a "fly by" look over those on one platform or the other.
  6. Best criticism......by no means..... you should read us Sheffield types when we really get annoyed.

  8. Had one done in front of five student doctors at the Northern General. The main man was showing them the technique and then walked out the examination room to the consulting room next door leaving the students and me wondering what was next. All I could think of saying was "he's very clever isn't he and really smart to put something up my rear end with both his hands on my shoulders" Enjoyed the laughter although the main man in the next room couldn't understand the joke - maybe not that clever after all. He's still my doctor a few years on and we laugh about it now. :D :D
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions. Contacted the Norton Helpline and after quite a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and seven restarts they used an "experts toolbox" programme to fix things and it all seems to be working OK. For those using MSE I've heard that support for this will cease at the same time that support for Windows XP ends in April 2014. Might be worth checking this out. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/secure-windows-xp-after-end-of-support-april-2014
  10. Norton 360 v5 (I think) is loaded on a laptop running Windows 8.1. If the laptop is closed down using the 'Shut Down' option then Norton will not start when the laptop is next fired up. If you then run 'Restart' after the laptop is running Norton then opens OK. Norton will start from cold after a 'Hibernate' close down. I have reinstalled Norton 360 twice and the scanning program cannot find anything wrong with the installation. Any helpful suggestions welcome but please don't just fall back on the "remove Norton and install something else" response - at this stage at least. Thanks
  11. There are three photographs of the Wicker Tunnel in this book: Author: Stephen R Batty Title: Rail Centres: Sheffield Publishing details: London, Ian Allan Ltd., 1984 Pages 20 - 21 showing the three photos of the tunnel. The text describes the tunnel as linking the Wicker Station (now Tesco) with Bridgehouses. The tunnel was relined over the years which reduced its internal bore size. The photos show a 1952 view of the Wicker station end of the tunnel with rails still in place and a photo from the opposite end dated as "early BR days" shows no sign of rails and a lot of vegetation. The remaining picture shows the Wicker end of the tunnel when a car dealer occupied the site and the tunnel entrance had been bricked over. This book should be available in the library.

  13. Neither, unless you want the first date to stand a good chance of being the last! Agree with the comment on the De Rhodes. Of you want to eat out you'd be better off eating out of paper standing on the pavement outside a decent chippy. Can anyone recommend Wetherby's off the Parkway?
  14. The Press over the Channel are concentrating more on the less sympathetic views of Margaret Thatcher unlike the uncritical vomit promoting excrement coming from the UK media. http://video.lefigaro.fr/figaro/video/des-mouvements-de-joie-apres-la-mort-de-thatcher/2288909071001/
  15. It has been reported that at Mrs. T's first job interview she was allegedly marked down as not to be hired as " this woman is excessively self opinionated". The lady might not have been for turning from an early stage
