  1. Hi Beth Maybe this link can help you find a group to run with. It's from a search I did for S35 on the RunTogether website. RunTogether was created by England Athletics and lists runs from all over the country. You can register and tick to attend any group run you would like to do. https://runtogether.co.uk/groups/find-a-runtogether-group-run/?location=S35
  2. No Castle are not doing a Christmas Day parkrun. Concord are though, as usual, with Barnsley I think the other nearest apart from Poolsbrook. Can't link at the minute so Google search 'parkrun Christmas compendium'
  3. Yes it was Paul Sinton-Hewitt and, I assume, his wife. By fluke I have a photo of them setting off.
  4. Tewkesbury - that's interesting. It's next to the Caravan Club Site which we often use for a day or two when travelling south and back with the caravan. Can see me scheduling a Friday night stopover! Which prompts a question. Does anyone have a list of parkruns near to caravan sites? Have been to Strathclyde and have noticed one at Tredegar House in Wales, possibly Sowerby and Peterborough. Flanker?
  5. Hi Alex. There is a Stocksbridge and Deepcar Bygone Days Facebook Group which you could maybe join and ask whether anyone has old photographs of 'The Wragg' which comes up in posts regularly. There are lots of old photos on the site too. I'm sure members would love to hear how your nan is getting on.
  6. What an interesting thread that has caused me to dig out my tiny ladies Summit watch bought by my mum for my 17th birthday from Woods Jewellers in Stocksbridge, so around 1966. I've always kept it in its case so it is in reasonable condition - maybe could do with a new strap. I'd like to think it was bought from Summit House in Sheffield. I wore it regularly for years until those new fangled battery watches came out and then, on occasion, when the batteries ran out! Thought I'd give it a wind to see if it worked but couldn't hear it ticking. However, that must be my ears because it is working and seems to be keeping good time. Maybe it could do with a service after all these years. I've also googled 'fond acier inoxydable' found on the back so now I know what that means :-)
  7. There are NO flat bits That's how it was described to me before I did it, and it's true. Well maybe a bit at the start/finish area. It's very undulating with a bit of a 'killer hill' at the finish of each of the 3 laps. A good course though, faster than Graves. I enjoyed it. Must go back some time.
  8. The free car parking works fine at RV. Just show your barcode to the gent operating the barrier, although the last time I ran RV no-one was in the booth and the barrier had just been left open so you could drive through. A fast time? My RV PB is 2 min 24 secs faster than my Graves PB, and I even ran close to my PB in the splishy, sploshy conditions at RV a few weeks ago :-)
  9. @ Winemaster and Waldo. Thought you two might have been exaggerating about the puddles at Rother Valley. Did it this morning and....you weren't Still enjoyed it though.
  10. My time was spot on when the results finally came through
  11. My first Sheffield Castle parkrun on Saturday. It's a great course. Really enjoyed it. Didn't know what to expect timewise but was pleased with what my watch said! Hope they manage to sort the problems out.
  12. So on both occasions I have driven to Crystal Peaks this week via Moss Way I have had to stop on the roundabout (Moss Way/Donetsk Way) due to traffic waiting at the temporary traffic lights for the Asda entrance roadworks backing up to the roundabout. I imagine there will have to be some permanent traffic lights for this entrance when the store is open, plus I understand there is going to be a least one pedestrian crossing. Just hope this roundabout chaos won't be a permanent feature.
  13. Exactly! That's not why we do Graves...erm why DO we do Graves :-) In all honesty, and having thought about it a bit more, I like it just the way it is. Is there even a need to re-measure?
  14. Have to admit, my Garmin, the Endomondo app on my phone (when I used it) and a route measuring tool I used all came out at around 5.17k so I've always thought it could be a little bit long. My GPS starting place though sometimes comes out near the traffic lights at the top of Warminster so who knows! However, even if a re-measure shows that it is long, I agree with Waldo, it should stay as it is. There is a need to compare with previous times. Just for information, I notice that the route shown on Graves parkrun course page both starts and finishes at the corner of the car park.
  15. For info: Both Rotherham and Rother Valley parkruns are cancelled tomorrow (7 September) as other events are taking place in the parks. More runners for the Sheffield parkruns?
