  1. On the Star website it says: Holme Lane close up to its junction with Wadsley Lane. Holme Lane does not have a junction with Wadsley Lane. They are about half a mile from each other Infirmary Road closed to its junction with Rudyard Road. Infirmary Road does not have a junction with Rudyard Road, again they are about half a mile from each other. Does anybody know the real situation? This evening I need to get from Walkley to my Mum's near Wisewood, then to Fox Hill.
  2. No, Ecclesall Road South is in Ecclesall not Eccleshall.
  3. My usual candidate and election data: https://mdfs.net/Docs/Sheffield/Election/2022/
  4. The Boundary Commission for England have published their initial proposals for new Parliamentary Boundaries to replace the ones in place since 2010. The proposals are browsable on their website at: https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/ I've drawn the initial proposals in Sheffield (and Penistone) here: (Richmond split is approximate) Credit to the wonderful Boundary Assistant tool.
  5. Usual candidate and election data: Election/2021
  6. Digging this thread back up... A bill is going through Parliament to kill of the Zombie reviews for good and return to the old cycle of Parliamentary Reviews and remaining with 650 seats. As the boundaries will be almost 25 years out of date at the next General Election, this means the cycle will restart with a review in the next few years. With 650 seats that means that Sheffield is entitled to about 5.5 Parliamentary constituences, as it is now. That means that you can have five seats entirely in Sheffield, but one must overflow over the city boundary into another council area, as it does now. Because Sheffield is in the bottom lefthand corner of Yorkshire, the only options are for three Sheffield wards to be paired with a bit of Barnsley, or three Sheffield wards to be paired with a bit of Rotherham. (Or a mix of both) Opinions?
  7. My usual election information at http://mdfs.net/Docs/Sheffield/Election/2019/
  8. I was phoning Veolia to book having a dead washing machine taken away and was stumped trying to tell them where I'd put it. Your traditional Yorkshire terrace house that is set back from the pavement has a small garden-y bit at the front with a paved bit in front of the front door. I'm sure there must be a name for this - the Americans would probably call it a stoop, but that's a run of steps. I ended up telling them: next to the end of the gennel by the front door.
  9. Even with PR you need equal size (multiples of) constituencies. All 4-member divisions have to be 4*quota, all 3-member divisions have to be 3*quota, all 5-member divisions have to be 5*quota, etc.
  10. Final recommendations for new Parliamentary Boundaries have been laid before Parliament. this map is the recommendation for Sheffield. The next step is for Parliament to vote YES or NO, no amendments after this point. If passed, they will come into effect for the next General Election, currently scheduled for May 2022.
  11. Statement of Persons Nominated: SOPN.pdf (not that you'd know if you followed the obvious route of going to the council website and clicking on ELECTIONS) My usual tables of candidates sorted by party: mdfs.net
  12. Maplin went from being an electronics supplier to an electronics goods retailer. They moved from being one in a market place of maybe half a dozen to one in a market place of hundreds. When the catalogue stopped weighing more than the Yellow Pages, that's when the rot set in.
  13. Also, Yorkshire Water have acknowledged on their website that there are some frozen water mains in the area resulting in low or non-existant water pressure. I spoke to a couple of residents on South Road earlier and water is either dribbling from taps or nothing at all. Don't know how far spread it is, but it'll be worse the further uphill you are. (My problem's the other end - my drains have frozen!) ---------- Post added 01-03-2018 at 19:44 ---------- There was two feet against my door, and by the time I dug myself out I got to the gennel which had been swept bare by the wind.
  14. Does anybody know if the city centre job centres are open? It's taken me half an hour to dig my way out of the house, all their phone numbers say "due to difficulties we can't answer" and there's nothing on any websites.
  15. I remember there was "young Mr Oates" who seemed to be in his sixties, and "old Mr Oates".
