  1. Billions has been spent on adding lanes to cope with the continuing massive increases in traffic. Problem is lack of education of drivers who don't know how to correctly drive on modern multi-lane roads; for example middle lane drivers and people who don't understand how to merge correctly. ---------- Post added 21-03-2018 at 20:01 ---------- Good article on the subject https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/driving-advice/zip-merging/
  2. Fred is has been missing from Chelsea Road, Nether Edge since 25th March. He is Black and white with only 1 eye. If you've seen him please let us know. Thank you. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154212664602352&id=693232351&set=a.132399267351.118668.693232351&source=57&ref=m_notif&notif_t=story_reshare ---------- Post added 29-03-2017 at 13:18 ---------- He's been found safe and sound.
  3. Big traffic problems on Burncross Road, the road works traffic lights outside the swimming baths are stuck on red both ways. Should be fun in the morning. Have reported on the council traffic light problem page on their website, not sure if there is somewhere else to report it. Stuart
  4. I fully agree. 99% of companies I deal with are reasonable and the majority of the 1% which aren't, I bite my tongue and go somewhere else. The time a company p****d me off this much was Excel Parking/Mothercare, we got their invoice cancelled after my wife was in Sheffield Star. What shocked my this morning was Hollywood Bowl are marketing themselves as a family venue, but ridged when a family who made a booking has to move it. Stuart
  5. The booking was for Sheffield and their contact page just gives the national number - http://www.hollywoodbowl.co.uk/our_centres/sheffield It is not a lot of money, for either myself or Hollywood bowl. It is the principle. We booked it in good faith and unfortunately had to cancel. I deal with businesses all the time and was disgusted by them. Stuart
  6. I am absolutely disgusted by the "Customer Service" I have just received from their national call centre. This is despite being regular users of the bowling alley and I have arranged corporate functions there. We booked last week for 2 families; 3 adults/kids per family and paid £27. This is for a lane at 10am this morning. Woke-up this morning and our two boys were covered in head-to-toe with a rash. We phoned up Hollywood Bowl at 9:30 to cancel, they said they had a no refund cancellation policy and pointed in the direction of their T&C's. The other family were already on there way and would use the lane. We were only asking for some sort of voucher we could then take the boys bowling when they were better. Talking approx. £13. The customer services operator could clearly hear two very upset boys in the background. It is not the money, it is the principle. Reading through their T&C's, they claim customers are not covered by Consumer protection laws for refunds (nice and not sure how that even works). source http://www.hollywoodbowl.co.uk/terms_conditions Archived one from 25th June, in case they update them http://web.archive.org/web/20140625220900/http://hollywoodbowl.co.uk/terms_conditions But, the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 have been superseded in June 2014 source http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations Reading through the new actual regulations, bowling alleys are not listed in the service providers exempt from the law and Hollywood Bowls T&C do not mention the new law. I called their "Customer Services" centre again and pointed this out to a manager, it was clear this manager wasn't aware of the new law and went away to investigate. He called me back a couple of hours later and basically said bugger off. I have now written to them and they now have 14 days (as per the law) to respond. I am really not happy about this and planning to take it the full way. Please be aware, if you book at Hollywood Bowl, they will claim you are not covered by Consumer Law rights. Stuart
  7. Exactly, when you park on the private parking imitation of the highway/council double yellow lines, they write on the ticket you parked outside the marked bays. Because they know double yellow lines doesn't mean anything on private land. Stuart
  8. Just drove down Halifax Road tonight. Watched in amusement as a silver Ambulance minibus pulled out of Rutland Road straight into the right hand lane on an empty Halifax Road. There was a big line of snaking cars behind him, when it was obvious he wasn't turning right, they all undertook him. He then struggled up the hill to the university roundabout, with cars still undertaking him where he then went right. It wasn't a proper Ambulance, but some sort of minibus, maybe a private owned one. Proper Ambulance drivers are trained and know how to drive. Halifax road is the only road I can think of where people do this. Stuart
  9. Agreed, it is almost 10 years to the day when we first encountered Excel parking and their very dodgy methods. Very stressful time, I wish I knew then what I know now. I was reading the other day about one of these so-called collection agencies a Sheffield parking company uses. The collection agency regulators have told them to stop using the phrase "You will be taken to court", as they have only been to court once and that was someone suing them. They now say "You maybe taken to court", knowing full well they will never do so. Stuart
  10. Shocking example of how greedy these people are. A disabled person using a disabled space, then trying to get money out them. Then the parking company using the excuse about your badge, which has nothing to do with them anyway. Read this for further advice:- http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=46975 Stuart
  11. There is a tree across the A61 between Tankersley McDonalds and M1 roundabouts. The cars coming from the M1 can barely get through and no chance for the ones come in the opposite direction. We have called the Police Stuart
  12. Agreed, once I understood there business model, it all made sense:- 1. Don't charge the landowners, therefore all income is from car owners. Go for every possible way to attempt to charge people. e.g.. Disabled drivers must display a council blue badge, paint yellow lines in the same colour/format as the highway code. 2. On very dodgy legal ground, therefore make the invoices look as legal as possible. 3. Only x% will pay up, therefore increase pressure on those who are concerned, more chance of them paying. 4. Ignore appeals. Might as well keep trying to get the money, at the end of the day the first invoice was just a try anyway. Stuart
  13. Just ignore all the invoices and then the fake collection agency stuff, see http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=46975 There advice is to only write back in the following circumstances, even them just ignore letters afterwards. Exceptions to Advice to Ignore PPC Tickets A PPC will normally obtain the name and address of the vehicle's Registered Keeper from DVLA, and pursue them for their ticket. In some cases where you were the driver but are not the RK, leaving the PPC to pursue the RK might be more hassle or more expensive than providing your details to the PPC, naming yourself as the driver and putting up with the junk mail yourself. For example: - You drive a Company car. Your employers may be unhappy about receiving a stream of claims from the PPC/debt collectors, and it could affect your relationship with them; - You were driving a hire car, and may incur administration charges from the hire company for dealing with the PPC letters; - The RK is a friend or relative who may find it too stressful to receive the threatening PPC letters (particularly since they won't have the same level of understanding as you do now!). In these circumstances you might wish to write to the PPC telling them that you were the driver, and then carry on ignoring them after that. Someone I know got one from a couple of weeks back, they did the horrendous crime of parking at Meadowhall Retail park when the Centertainment car park was full. They had pre-booked tickets and had to park somewhere. The shops at Meadowhall Retail park were closed and the car park was empty, therefore no loss to Meadowhall Retail park, or causing anyone any problems. Anyone who argues for the PPC's are clearly affiliated with them. Stuart
  14. I don't condone tailgaters, speeders, dangerous drivers etc, etc. But I am still confused how you know he got done for speeding, dangerous driving and under the influence. These details are confidential between the Police, DVLA and the driver. Are you saying the Police called you up afterwards and revealed these personal details? Stuart
