  1. lights flickered and then went down here for 1 1/2 hours. Took dog at walk and even Spar at Greenhill shops was in darkness and shut up shop
  2. Bearing in mind the amount of empty stalls at the market - being forced to open 7 days a week and 2 late nights by the market authorites if you rent a stall ..... best sell nothing....... by not even renting one as you won't have a life outside work!!!
  3. There are various places on the network called crossover points - eg Birley Lane, Donetsk Way, Beighton, Arena, Shalesmoor, Sheffield Station, Hillsborough. When trams are late for whatever reason the main aim is to get them back on time. The process is called "stepping up". This often involves a spare tram. The control room staff will send a tram to say Halfway and will make it leave Halfway at the time the late tram should have left (there is usually a spare tram running on the Blue Line in the afternoon to ease rush hour commuters). They will agree a rendezvous point eg Moss Way and when the late tram pulls up the crew jumps onto the spare tram and hey presto they are back on time. The driver of the spare tram then runs the passengers of the late tram to Halfway and will probably keep "stepping up" until everyone is back on time. When a spare tram cant be used and a tram is very late there is usually another tram shortly behind. Thats where the crossover is used. It will unload passengers at the stop and then run "wrong direction" over the points onto the other side and again its back on time.
  4. Many thanks for all the replies. He was unsure what the procedure was as his first and that time only offence was over 30 years ago. He is frustrated as he is adament he was under but he could have been doing 35mph when he thought he was doing 25mph and misread the speedo, hey we all do that from time to time. Will wait and see what happens next.... 3 points in 30 years aint bad going!!!
  5. Hi all, Can I ask for a bit of advice please. My Dad has just had a speeding ticket through the post. It states he was doing 35mph in a 30mph zone - past Homebase on Chesterfield Rd. My dad is very sure he wasnt speeding as he passed the spot regularly and is aware where the camera van usually parks. The notice said intended prosecution and asked for license and to tick a box. He has sent his license (showing last speeding offence was back in 1978!!). Can anyone tell me the likely outcome? ie points/fine etc. Many thanks in advance
  6. Got Blundells in for valuation - smooth sales pitch - "its great to come to a house which doesnt need work doing to it..... the last house i had to write 2 pages of improvements......mmmm" 1.5% commission + £299 advertising fee plus other extras to boot. Advertising fee??? Brochures are printed straight from a colour laser printer now. When I looked in Property guide they took up 5 pages were devoted to their award ceremony and how good they were - is that what they want paying for??? Nowadays no one hardly visits branches of estate agents - you drive around area interested in and view online. Key2go seem to be a breath of fresh air. They will arrange HIPs at a local sols for £229 and will negotiate with other sols for completions etc and offer the full package inc mortgage advice. Brochures are top notch to. Best option is £199 upfront and £500 on completion - regardless of value of your property. They have a presence on Rightmove.co.uk - so if went for Blundells would be £2200 to sell my house in total - Key2go £699. For £199 if it doesnt work out then nothing to lose. If you pull from Blundells the cancellation charges are higher than £199!!
  7. I know of two times on Monday a tram got a window smashed by yobs at Crystal Peaks and last night one window smashed at Birley Lane all at night around 7.30pm. I was on the tram last night - and from I can gather its a regular occurance now throwing ballast at the trams yet they dont care who is sat next to the window. Someone is going to get seriously hurt one day!!!
  8. Day riders are £3.50. Single fare to Meadowhall from Peaks is £2.10 Trams run every 10 mins during day. Take approx 35 mins to travel into town. Then once on Meadowhall tram will take approx 17 mins. (again trams every 10 mins).
  9. MOT at DOT MOT - £49.95, took there for last 3 years, no probs and honest. However since MOT and was looking for a full service quote I came across Clark and Partners On Orgreave Way, Handsworth (Opp HGV test centre). Recently given official Ford Garage status. Service was £99 and if MOT done at same time would be £129.00. Dropped off for service 8.30am and back for 2.30pm. Excellent helpful service, car was even washed and trims/tyres blackened. All official Ford parts for £99 and there was even an offer on where I got £40 of gift vouchers for B+Q, Sainsburys and Debenhams. Actual gift vouchers and not money off coupons so well impressed and effectively cost me £59 for a full service. Definately using them from now on and would highly recommend.
  10. West St is a well known problem for trams. Its the drains which cant cope thus heavy flooding. Drivers have to go slow through the puddles when bad weather as if they go fast the force of the water detatches a metal guard.
  11. The reason behind move is the massive increase in electricity prices which everybody is facing. Ive seen some company info on the handout given to conductors that state Supertram's electricity bill has gone up 30% in the last 3 years and most of the cost has been absorbed hence the small increase at the end of Jan in fares. However like everyone else the bills are going up again in September by another 20% which the company cant sustain without a large increase in the prices. Ok its a large increase but thats the way everything is going at the moment so you cant moan at prices going up when everyones houshold bill is going up by as much as £200 a year.
  12. on reflection looking at original post - 115.9p just 2 and a half months ago and now hitting 129.9 so 14p in that time
  13. have a look at foolowing Daily Mail page for photos of the dramatic reconstruction - putting the GB sticker on really tops it off!!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-563951/Pictured-The-workmans-van-disguised-police-target-motorists-hidden-speed-camera.html
  14. A warning to motorists who venture in Derbyshire. Went to Alton Towers on Saturday via Ashbourne and on the A515 (50mph limit) and just outside the Bluebell Pub there was a light blue van, not signwritten, had a towbar but with a black back window half open. I remember reading about it in The Metro a couple of weeks back. The Derbyshire force actually took one of their police camera vans (white with safety camera partnership and the logos on it) and resprayed it light blue with no signwriting and fitted a towbar to it to make it look a normal van. There was a photo of it in the paper in its previous life compared to what it is now. The force said it wasnt trying to make money and stressed there were plenty of speed camera signs..... mmmm
  15. :rant:Why after the budget yesterday when they said the 2p price increase on petrol has been deferred does the price go up 2p overnight??? Latest Ive seen today for diesel is 115.9 on Birley Lane and even 119.9 at a small garage on White Lane. Its getting ridiculous.
