  1. I wasn’t being pedantic, just stating a fact. It’s hit and miss driving to Manchester Airport and you couldn’t just allow an hour to get there and be confident of arriving on time. And I don’t think your abbreviation is called for.
  2. I remember eating at the Regency in the early seventies. It really was a top place. If you’re talking about the restaurant I would assume late 60’s early 70’s however the actual building was very old. It was, I believe, owned by Rus(h)by’s a firm that did outside catering for weddings etc. Prawn Cocktail steak/Duck a l’orange Black Forest Gateaux bottle of Liebfraumilch Bobs your uncle! Yum.
  3. I remember going to Eversure House on Cumberland Street for NHS family planning in 1973. In those days you had to be engaged to be married in order to be prescribed the contraceptive pill. The name always made me smile.
  4. Hi Sukhbir This has intrigued me because I check the Hucklow Road thread quite a lot hoping that someone would mention Mrs Smith. If it’s the same Mrs Smith, I am her niece. I was always under the impression that she loved the children she taught. I remember her as being a real lady and very gentle, so it surprises me that you say she was a battle axe 😂😂😂. My uncle was quite a tyrant and had many mental health issues so maybe that resulted in her giving you the shivers. Not that I’m excusing it.. If you or anyone else has any other memories of Mrs Smith, I’d love to hear them. I remember she took me to the school Christmas party when I was about 5 and I made friends with a girl called Judith. That would have bern around 1960.
  5. The point is it is easier to eat 4 apples, 2 oranges, a banana, a punnet of strawberries, 4 oz grapes , a kiwi, a handful of cherries and a plum as a liquidised drink than as solids. Most people would give up after the apples. But if it was juiced it could be swigged quickly and this would mean more calories consumed.
  6. It's not bad for you. It's fruit juice. I think what your colleagues are meaning is that whilst fruit is whole it takes longer to eat and so you feel full, whereas once you liquidise it you can guzzle it so the calories go down quicker. Hence you don't feel full so can then eat 4 cream slices, two apple turnovers, and a portion of fish and chips washed down wth 2 pints of lager and a bag of crisps
  7. I know I sound like an old git - and please be assured I'm definitely not - but that Tim Rice doesn't cut it the same as Brian Matthew. He sounds as though he is just reading from a script. Brian sounds as though it's just coming out of his head naturally .
  8. This may break forum rules, I don't know as I'm not clever enough to read up on everything but there is a page to donate to charities chosen by Jo's family http://www.gofundme.com/jocox in her memory. I know that some may not wish or be in a position to donate but after the outpouring of grief for a mummy, wife and highly respected MP some may wish to throw in their twopennorth.
  9. Re: Posts 11-18 it's great to see some humour on SF. Hats off to you lot. ---------- Post added 01-04-2016 at 19:32 ---------- I'd settle for the splits
  10. But surely Chapeltown, Sheffield was in the West Riding of Yorkshire until they were abolished in the early Seventies ? I don't think it would have been North or East Riding.
  11. Hi, as no-one else has responded, here is my two pennorth. What you are saying is about right,I think, but you can put all the details in here : http://cccfcalculator.hmrc.gov.uk/ (hope it works but if not go to gov.uk company car calculator and you will find it). You need a bit of info about the car though, eg purchase price and emissions. Thing is, doesn't matter how old the car is, you will be taxed at the original price . So it may be quite costly. Others please feel free to correct me. ---------- Post added 24-02-2016 at 18:14 ---------- Whoops didn't see other reply ---------- Post added 24-02-2016 at 21:06 ---------- So.....was the response from bargegpole23 and me of help ? It's really nice to have an acknowledgement -thank you.
