  1. Hello, I have a couple of old duvets for the dogs - anyone able to pick them up on the way through the walkley/upperthorpe area soonish? Ta Laura
  2. Hi Leanne, Don't know if you've already posted this on the dedicated knitting group (just scroll down a bit in interest groups), but if not I suggest you do! There are lots of talented ladies on there - I'm sure someone will be able to help. Laura
  3. I don't generalise, but since you've mentioned it, it does really irritate me when cyclists run red lights. I know it's not everyone but I do see these idiots on a daily basis and clearly they are not getting their comeuppance or by now there'd be fewer of them and the remaining majority of cyclists would be sensible, safe ones like your good self.
  4. Hi Hana, I'm in S8 too and would be love to get some private sewing tuition too... pm me? Thanks Laura
  5. Nooo! I just got back from me hols and I missed it. Sounds like fun
  6. Thanks Sophie, and thanks for favouriting my shop! It's all so exciting! I'm struggling a little now because I'm spending so much time looking at shops and reading forum posts I'm not actually making anything. Good tip on the email christmas list though! Laura
  7. Hello, Just set up on Folksy this weekend. Lots of views but no sales yet, although I have bought stuff. Ooops. I'm here: http://www.folksy.com/shops/maisiewilson
  8. Is there any evening or weekend lacemaking instruction or anything nearby? I took a fancy to it on a trip to Flanders and had a go before discovering it's actually pretty tricky...
  9. I have to say, it hadn't really occurred to me to be insulted by that comment! I take it as a compliment but I think I like people to notice when something's hand-made (for kudos, mostly) and they often don't... The other possibility is that it's clearly something I've made but looks a bit rubbish so people politely say nothing. Definitely possible.
  10. Hi, Can I suggest you post this on the knitting specific group? There are loads of knitters around... personally am happy to knit for you but would only say I'm of an intermediate standard - what is it you're looking for? Big things, small things, clothes, accesssories?
  11. Agreed with the previous post. If true, the accusations against First do indeed seem heinous, and I am disinclined to support the bus company as I feel they put the interests of paying passengers as low down on their list of priorites as those of the drivers. However, drivers continuing to strike over a matter of discipline are only shooting themselves in the feet. As evidenced by this forum, people have limited patience with strikes, particularly as they have already had this dispute over pay in a year where most other workers have seen frozen or cut salaries. Employment law is there to protect the worker, and is the proper forum for this kind of disagreement - perhaps I am naive about the reality of the system in application, or maybe drivers simply aren't prepared to accept that their friends and colleagues have warranted any action from their employers. Drivers in general make no friends of their passengers - there are exceptions but most I come into contact with are, to put it gently, not exceptionally charming. And the ranting against the forum? There are other media. If something has to be published to be free from moderation, is there anything stopping the union from providing a counter-argument on a different website? You can't blame the (free, let's not forget) forum for protecting it's own interests to avoid any potential legal issues.
  12. I'd hope you've stopped going! Did you and your friends offend said piercer? What even is a wonky spetum?
  13. What's getting demolished for Sevenstone that would be worth keeping? There's the odd nice Victorian building toward the Peace Gardens end but a lot of those are retained facades from the 70's anyway - most of the rest stretches along the back of division street and is ugly stuff (the old fire station for one) and car parks. On the whole it's disappointing that there's so much negativity about the city on here - people moan about how it was, how it is and how it will be without so much as a constructive comment between the lot, so how will it ever improve? Sheffield is a great city, if only because it provides what facilities you need from a city but retains a little humility. The greatest mistake we could make here is to try to replicate the brash charms of Leeds and Manchester - I'm not knocking them, but they just aren't places I'd want to live. Likewise, despite the obvious delight of the riverside, Newcastle on my most recent visit was a confusing and sprawling city centre and I got trapped in the Eldon centre and couldn't find any way out.
  14. So, you come on a public forum and compare your 5 year old nephew to a psychotic criminal and call your sibling a junkie, just to complain about teachers?! If this is an example of the interpersonal skills in your family then god help the poor kid!
  15. Hello all, I was walking past the derelict Leah's Yard building on Cambridge St this evening, and saw 1 adult cat and two pretty small kittens near the front wall (but still inside). I know that someone feeds the cats in there, and that it's well known that they're there, but it seems like maybe it would be worth bringing the cats in for neutering/spaying etc. so my question is - who do I call? I know the building has restricted access because it's dangerous, so would this stop the RSPCA gaining access to pick up at least the kittens? Any thoughts?
