  1. Aldi Melton Mowbray pies have jelly, I have a couple every week.
  2. Always use Perry's at Parkgate, Vauxhall and Kia main dealers.
  3. Bob, do you remember Pete Pethick who also travelled from Parson Cross? He was a very good runner and we were in the same class. I was part of the contingent who came over from Swallownest Secondary for a couple of years before going back to Aston Comp. I think the Malcolm you refer to was Lips combe, not sure of the spelling, and I vaguely remember the French teacher.
  4. Absolutely disgraceful vandalism. We only passed it a couple of weeks ago from Whitley Bay to Vindolanda, a journey we have made over 20 times. The judicial system should make an example of him, but I fear it won't.
  5. We live in Rotherham so Woodhead is our usual route to get to the link road, otherwise it's up to the M62 and across or down towards Birmingham and across.
  6. Went last week and loved the town. We drove over Woodhead, followed sat nav round Manchester and Wrexham, Welshpool, Oswestry ? Took 3 hrs 45mins.
  7. Probably best known to many for his role as Joe in the Royle Family comedy sitcom, Peter was an excellent singer who played many of the Sheffield Working Men's Clubs. RIP.
  8. They were based after Manvers Road, Beighton and also had a car sales run by Fred Atack who did it part time while he worked at the NCB Fence Workshops. I worked with him and bought quite few Vauxhall Cavaliers from him. He took pride in looking after his customers, many like me who returned regularly. He took redundancy and built the business up before moving it to a huge new site at Mosbrough. He sold it when he retired a good few years ago to Burrows.
  9. As a local union official at Fence Workshops, I attended two of the funerals. We organised a concert at Swallownest Miner's Welfare with all the artists, top group Jade, Verne Walker Duo and Rex Miller connected to the NCB. Proceeds went to the families affected. The Workshops were on 24 hour operation to supply any equipment needed for this horrendous incident.
  10. I was around in the 60's when the Treeton Boat and Ski Club was formed. A local lad, Mick Moore used to drive one of the boats. It was powered by a Ford Prefect engine! The club still exists and have a presence throughout the summer. Damage to the clubhouse has diminished since the installation of CCTV. The biggest issue is litter dropped all around the area which some of our local litter picking group try and keep under control. Some but not all is the fishing club members who camp out and leave piles of rubbish.
  11. Calverts Mobile Butchers do a great tomato sausage. They're on Facebook with locations.
  12. All Curry's branches sell Bose speakers as well as other manufacturers. I personally love Bose and have many products including the excellent Soundlink mini that I use to play music through .
