  1. THESE ITEMS HAVE NOW BEEN TAKEN. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST. I am selling a selection of photography magazines on the forum (in the classified section). I would like £5 for them and there are about 70 issues. Ideal for an amateur photographer who wants to learn more or just looking for inspiration. I also have a Lowepro camera bag for sale, again for £5. The bag fits a SLR body and two lenses or is a handy day bag for a compact or bridge camera. Hopefully another keen photographer can benefit from them.
  2. Thanks Bloomdido. I have already had somebody kindly offer to help but do appreciate the offer.
  3. Thank you for the suggestion but I wouldn't even know where to begin! Is this a service that PC shops offer? If so, how much should I expect to pay? Thanks.
  4. My internet connection dropped on my PC yesterday and so the page popped up telling me this. I had the option to minimise or close this page - I clicked on close. It would not let me close down the page and the mouse froze in that position on the screen and the PC started making a high pitched buzzing sound. It wouldn't let me close down the PC or do anything. After about ten minutes the noise was driving me mad so I just turned it off at the front of the machine (naughty, I know). Since then it has not worked properly at all. As soon as I plug the PC in the fans start up but there is no output to the monitor, the DVD drive won't open etc. I don't even have to turn the PC on at the front - it just turns on automatically as soon as it is plugged in. It will not shut down/turn off using the button at the front. I can't reload Windows etc since the DVD drive won't open. I have spent a few hours troubleshooting and looking on Google and think it is probably the motherboard that is dead (possible caused by the mouse - which no longer works either, even on another computer). Any other suggestions of what the problem could be and how to fix it? I have some documents and photos on the hard drive that I hadn't yet been able to back up that I would like to retrieve if possible. Any suggestions on how this could be done would be appreciated though I wouldn't be confident taking the PC apart myself. Any recommendations of local companies that could help would also be much appreciated. Just to add, it was a custom built PC that I bought from someone off the forum several weeks ago.
  5. Some lovely shots there - well done. I especially like the close up of the flower (iris?). Good luck with the photography. I hope you find a course that suits you. Make sure that you choose a course that encourages you to keep taking photographs rather than bogging you down with the theory. Or one that lets you develop your own eye while helping you learn the technical side could be good.
  6. I would also be interested in a networking/social group for freelancers. I would be happy to work with someone else and organise this if there was the demand (as there seems to be).
  7. Some lovely shots there, well done. I especially like the last one.
  8. Thanks Cinderella. I have been focusing on other tasks for the past hour or so but will have another try shortly. Thank you once again for your succinct and comprehensive advice. I am beyond the guarantee period. I will PM you later if that is OK to explain what I have done so far. Many thanks.
  9. CORRECTION: WMP does not recognise or play the DVD. DVD RW model no is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40N-ATA Device (if anyone can help or suggest where I can find drivers to reinstall
  10. Thanks Cinderella for the clear instructions. I tried that and I can now play DVDs on WMP as well but it still does not recognised CDs. I think the problem might be that it is recognising the drive as DVD RW when before I think it was CD/DVD RW. Any suggestions on how I correct this?
  11. Thanks again Trickle. I have tried a few things but without much success. Don't want to do too much in case I mess it up and lose the DVD function but will persevere. Thanks for the tips.
  12. Thanks Trickle. Unfortunately when I get to the stage where I should delete the upper/lower filters they aren't there.
  13. The optical drive on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 is not behaving itself. It will read DVDs but only play them in Toshiba DVD Player, not Windows Media Player for example. It does not recognise CDs at all. Any suggestions on what I can do to get my CDs and DVDs playing and copying, preferably through Windows Media Player? Many thanks in advance
