  1. We have access to the defib kept at the watersports centre at Rother Valley Country Park. We have a radio so we can contact the park rangers in the event of an emergency and the AED (defib) can be taken to the party concerned. RVp
  2. If anyone is planning to join us at RVp this week, or any other week, and you come by car, show your barcode at the gate on the way into parkrun, and you only pay a pound instead of five. Unfortunately, this discount doesn't work at other times. The park is really supportive, so we encourage anyone who has time, to join us for a coffee afterwards. Happy running. RVp
  3. Just a reminder. We're cancelled this Saturday (27th Feb), due to the Duathlon taking place at RV. We're back on 5th March. A well earned rest for the volunteers, and an opportunity for some tourism, for our runners. Decisions............decisions. Rvp
  4. Evening all, The course at Rother Valley has been inspected this evening and it is too icy to safely hold the event. It is unlikely to thaw by 0900 so better to cancel now, and give runners an option of heading to another event. RVp
  5. Evening all, When we decided to put an additional run on, on NYD, I don't think any of the other Sheffield parkruns had decided to put an event on, or the time they were going to run at. Clumber had already declared a 09:00 am start, so for those runners over this side of town, it made sense to offer that as a double. Plus with the added bonus of a lie in, we thought we might be in with a better chance of filling the volunteer roster, with or without hangovers ;-)
  6. Hi Blacklab, I'm not aware of any clubs in Kiveton itself. Others may be correct me. The most local clubs that come to mind are: Killamarsh Kestrels Crystal Peaks Runners Clowne Road Runners Rotherham Harriers Rother Valley Swallows Plus lots more in Sheffield and a Worksop. And, as per our avatar we have Rother Valley parkrun ( a free 5k run, every Saturday morning, starting at 9am). Hope that helps. RVp
  7. Evening all, As Sharpend has said, we have re-inforced the message regarding accompanying all under 11 runners, as we had noticed a few sprinting across the finish line without their responsible adult. It is very unusual for UK Athletics insured events to allow children to take part together with adults, so we cherish this freedom and would like to do everything we can to avoid putting this in jeopardy. We've also had advice from parkrun HQ that the event team will be supported if they intervene if we see any 'pushy parents' who are forcing their children to 'compete' or run against their will. Thankfully we haven't experienced any of this at our parkrun, but I'm sure it must be happening in some places. I think the occurrences we've had, at Rother Valley, of unaccompanied juniors is a result of over enthusiast juniors, and adults who can't keep up, rather than the other way round. However, it is a really important rule, and one we hope people will see the sense of. We are a one lapper, with large stretches of the course separated by the lakes. We have a tail runner to ensure everyone makes it back to the finish safely, but we can't keep watch over everyone on the whole course, so it is important that the juniors stick with their accompanying adult. Hope that helps. Happy running. RVp
  8. The Rowbotham Round Rotherham 50 mile Ultra Race was on yesterday, with quite a few Kimberworth solo and relay runners. We manned the Maltby feed station and checkpoint at the 40 mile mark. A very impressive effort by all the runners, walkers and teams and organisers. Well done everybody. RVp
  9. We've had 21 events now, during a great summer. Yesterday was our first soggy event, but we still had 56 runners and a great turnout from the volunteers. Come rain and shine we'll be continuing to run the event through the autumn and winter, and only postpone if the course becomes unsafe. The Handsworth Roadhogs have kindly offered to provide all the volunteers for our 23rd event on the 26th October, so you may see lots of club T-shirts on the day. We'd be happy for any of the other local clubs to volunteer to host an occasional future event, to give the exisitng teams the occasional break or opportunity to run. Catch us on Twitter and FB, for regular updates, news and plenty of photos from the events. Happy running and volunteering. RVp
  10. Waldo - thanks for the kind words, and thanks for coming down and supporting the event. Here's to lots more runs and a few PBs thrown in, every now and again.
