  1. I can say they added a lot of mess, rubbish, old sofas- I live there and they kept telling the kids to shut up and get out of shot- really intrusive.
  2. Its still in the church- I went in a few weeks ago and the plaques are in situ. The church has been bought by a developer and he intends to keep them believe. there was talk of access for historians etc..
  3. Broomhall is no worse than other inner city areas, and because people keep saying its a bad area, its what you look for! There are many lovely poeple who will give you a warm welcome. The problem is the transient population who do not engage with their neighbours, which does not bring any sense of community to the place. So NO Broomhall is not bad, and never has been and gets an unfair amount of bad press, and all the excellent things that happen are ignored. We served a Halal Turkey dinner to 72 people in December- all the food was cooked by local people and a great time was had by all, as well as raising £300 for the East Africa Appeal. Just because people get on with it and don't shout about their good work does not mean its not happening. Changing peoples perception of the area is harder than changing the area.
  4. The BBC filmed the council estate shots on Lansdowne, and went to great effort to make the place look like a dump! Not impressed.
  5. Broomhall is a diverse and vibrant area of Sheffield, with a high percentage of multiple occupancy dwellings, and not all of these are students. Despite the bad press you will find a warm welcome from most residents who have fascinating life stories and a deep affection for the area. For such a small neighbourhood there is a lot going on, not only different activites and adult education classes, but community based groups all working together to be proud of living in Broomhall. It is an inner city neighbourhood with lots of people per square meter, and inevitably there are occasions when we don't all see eye to eye, and many community minded residents work very hard to ensure community cohesion is a priority. If you are a student looking for somewhere to live thats near to town and other facilities then Broomhall is great. All we ask is that you take part in your new community, say hello to people on the street, come to community events and really experience Broomhall, and not be someone who just walks through on their way to somewhere else. You get back what you put in!
