  1. Anyone work at Weston Seniors during 68-69 before they moved to the new building ?
  2. I remember new formula, saw them many times at arbourthorne hotel and on working mens clubs. Seem to think that a couple of them went to become Paper Lace ?

I went to the solid silver 60s show at the city hall on friday and vanity fare were backing all the artists .I saw them at the Arbourthorne Hotel in 1969.It was snowing and we got in early to get a seat. by 8.30 the landlord came on stage and said they were stuck in snow but would do their best to get there.They eventually turned up very late..and walked in with sun glasses on guitars in one hand amps in other and went straight off ..Does anyone else remember!!

  7. As kids we used to go to the heeley Palace on a Saturday afternoon ,late fifties,We used to get six penorth of mixed from the chippie on Myrtle Rd (chips,mushey peas and scraps) and eat them out the paper walking down.Highlight was the serial at the end Captain Marvel (SHAZAM!!!!)

Anyone remember Octopus from the 70's.they were really heavy for working mens clubs ,but had a massive following.Used to play a lot of Yes stuff as well as there own,also brought an album out.When they packed up, the drummer joined Mungo Jerry,but the singer Paul Giggs who was the driving force behind the band changed direction completely and joined Guys and Dolls,how naff was that .

  10. Saw some top bands in the 60s, I think Monday night was a favourite. One of us used to pay to go in and get a pass out where the back of your hand was stamped. We all used to wait outside,wet our hand and copy the impression, It never failed....happy days...Joe Cockers greaseband.Vinegar Joe with Elkie Brookes and Robert Palmer and many many more...
  11. I remember the herbalist near the Abbeydale cinema ,after the pictures we used to go in there for a pint of sasparella which we thought was like having a pint of beer,then we'd walk towards London rd where there was a chippy that sold little oval meat pies caked in relish with mushy peas.
  12. During the 50s we moved to Lowedges and in the school holidays used to walk down the main road towards Dronfield. I remember the swings behind the Nags Head pub(now the Bowshaw)and just beyond there at the junction near I think it's the Coach and Horses is a railway bridge where we used to watch the Flying Scotsman go past. Across the road was a sweet shop (It could have been a pre-fabricated building).where we used to buy black jacks, fruit salads,Mcgowans highland toffee bars with a picture of a cow on the wrapper,and penny arrow bars( I hated the banana flavour)...happy days!

I joined the cavendish in 1967, after the Locarno closed for refurbishment ,to re-open as Tiffany's,It had a casino and the Latino Lounge which hosted up and coming acts, then there was the go-go room ( a small disco) happy days. I saw the Love Affair,LesDawson,Marmalade, and does anyone remember Tiny Tim?

The Blue Moon was at the corner of Nursery St and Johnson St,It used to be owned by a firm called Machinagraph .I delivered post there and it was still the same inside allthough what used to be the stage had office desks on it. I also remember seeing the Mighty Avengers ,The Big3, and the Four Pennies there.
  15. Anyone remember the BLUE MOON CLUB on Johnson street near the wicker I believe it was owned by Pete Stringfellow in the 60s I saw the KINKS there in 1964
