  1. I've never lived there myself, but my dad grew up there and my grandad still lived there until a few years ago before he passed away, so I have many many years of memories there. I always thought it was a nice place to live, and I still like the place when I've happened to pass through.
  2. I knew where that was from the first post - I remember it as Game and visited many a time. found this on sheffield picture archive.. just to left you can see game sign. http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;t03987&pos=410&action=zoom&id=34281
  3. I agree with whats been said mostly. I lived in Scotland for many many years, coming back to Sheffield recently - so I was always bringing Scottish notes back and forth with me. Although they are legal tender, it always amazed me how many places initially refused them in shops and such. Often a quick check with someone in charge would sort it, but it wasn't unknown for them to be refused on occasion.
  4. Been in a couple of times since the weekend, and do like whats on offer. Layout is a little confusing at first, but I knew what I wanted and managed to head straight to it the last visit. Air con def needs fixing - heard other customers complaining how hot it was and asked a staff member if air con was working, and apparently it is, but they also said it didnt feel like it was on at all, so who knows. Was glad to get outside again!
  5. there is another 4 tills towards the back of the shop (past the post office), not sure why, possibly for people leaving through to the carpark or something, but there are 8 tills altogether.
  6. Went in half hour ago. Pretty busy too. They have made pretty good use of the old co-op floorspace, just about every inch has been used (all way upto the front door more or less). Back end has stuff like table, chairs, cupboards, rows of paint, wallpaper etc. Further in is all your food and household shopping stuff. Electricals and allsorts. Quite a large range overall in each area. Will go back in for a better view another time as was only rushing around to see what it was like.
  7. Yeah, ive heard from people that have had this happen, that they start small, then work up to larger amounts. Luckily ive never had anything happen to me, but annoying for those that it does happen to - although banks are pretty good/quick at spotting something dodgy going on.
  8. I was there around that time and the other two werent working. That Lloyds machine has been damaged for quite some time now, I keep expecting it to be fixed or something by now but its still in a state. Had no calls or messages from my bank and my account is still in order luckily, if it is that machine thats been tampered with.
  9. Elphi, do you have a link or details of the job you can put here? (or possibly pm a link or details by any chance?).
  10. I used to know of an Alan Widdowson, but it may well not be the same one. Do you have any more details about him to share? Never heard or know of the other.
  11. I cant give any particular advice, but it does sound like it needs sorting - however it happens. My next door neighbour has a wall going from the end of the house all the way down the bottom of the garden - must be 8 ft high and 30-40ft long at least. This wall had been leaning for quite some time, and my 5 yr old neice one morning ran around onto the neigbours garden to fetch a toy or something she had left there. About 5 minutes later the whole wall came down. That wall didnt and doesnt affect us directly, being at the end of the rear house entrances, but was lucky she didnt end up underneath it, or infact the neighbours who had gone out just beforehand too.
  12. Im not sure why wearing a suit (and tie), to sign on or check jobpoints etc would be important. I agree, there are some scruffs that are in there when Ive been in, that may or may not be interested in working. Personally I would go presentable - suit or suit and tie would be kept for interviews.
  13. I seem to remember going to school with you (i think? - sure we spoke a few years ago through friends reunited or somewhere lol).. what was your school prior to Chaucer?
  14. had some decent breakfasts there mostly, and price was ok. cant speak for mains though as ive only ever been for breakfasts. i like the place/atmosphere.
  15. I was living up in Scotland at the time, and was a member of a local forum where I lived, and I wondered if there was a Sheffield forum. That is how I ended up here. Rarely posted over the few years Ive been here, but I do look in and read every day of the week.
