  1. Hello All Ages since I have been on here, I haven't had a cig since 31st August last year, I used champix and did have problems but it was worth it. I found the Forum a great help. I put on 2 stone but have taken off a stone now and hopefully I will get more off - it is not that important compared to stopping smoking. I am 65 and had smoked since my teens so for me it has been a major achievement. I retired in July and feel better than I have for years. So please keep trying. It is worth it in the end.
  2. Hi Ages since I was last on, 19 weeks today since my last smoke. Still have times when I really want one and have put on a lot of weight. My OH stopped 14 weeks ago, doesn't seem to bother him and he hasn't put weight on!! The point I am making is the pills seem to be different for everyone. It is great to see so many people getting there. I am now a non smoker and I will stay that way, this thread has helped no end. IF I CAN STOP ANYONE CAN, I AM 64 AND HAVE SMOKED FOR YEARS, SO PLEASE KEEP IT UP.
  3. Hi Jo I have now been 14 weeks without smoking, I am 60 ish and had smoked for years, I didn't cut down at all just stopped on my chosen 'stop day'. The nurse i saw said that under 10 for the co2 reading was fine!! I always took my second pill between 5 and 6, but still had weird dreams and a lousy sleep pattern. The thing is I do still at times want a cig - but a mate who gave up 7 years ago says she could still smoke. This thread is brilliant, it is there when everything else is shut dow!! Good luck.
  4. Yes this happened to me, then I went for days and it happened again. All that you can do is think of how far you have got. It is 12 weeks today for me and I am finished on the tablets (I have some 500 left just in case). I think there will always be times when I want to smoke but I know that just one will not do and will lead to having more. Good luck to everyone - saw the nurse for the last time today I am now officially a non smoker!!
  5. I went on to 1.5 after about four weeks, then after six to 2 x 500 ml. I am trying on 1 500 ml. I am now 9 weeks without a cig and really worried what I will be like without the tablets. I have had about four horrendous days when all I wanted was a cigarette and can't find any reason why that happened, although I have smoked since my teens (over 40 years). Any advice on how to cope without the tablets? This site has kept me going and been a great help!!!
  6. At first I cut them in half but now the nurse is prescribing the 500ml which is much easier.
  7. I had my last fag on 31st August, my main side effects have been disturbed sleep and weird dreams. After reading on here about others I have now cut down to 500 ml twice a day. Good luck:P
  8. Good luck, never thought I would pack in, i am quite snappy and moody with it but it will be worth it in the end. I am sure your GP will have read everything up.
  9. I have smoked 20 a day (sometimes more) for years. I didn't cut down at all when I first started taking Champix, stopped totally day 10. Its three weeks now so feeling good about it - but I would love a fag, just not going to. I want to retire next year!! I haven't been breathless at all, in fact I am using inhalers less that I was. I have found a lot of the posts really helpful its good that people who have been off a while still add posts as it encourages the likes of me.
  10. I have been off smoking since 31st August using champix, not had any major problems with Champix other than disturbed sleep. I take 1 x 1mg in the morning and 1 x 500 in the evening. I haven't told many people I have stopped and no one seems to have noticed. I have gained weight but i am eating more. My main worry is what happens when I stop taking them!!
  11. Hi NewBiz, is it working on the lower dose, I am not sleeping prooperly and am wondering about trying it? Lots of ups and downs and good and bad days but I know it will get easier!
  12. I think you will find it will be OK. I was worried but the side effects don't seem to have got any worse. My worst side effect is the weird dreams and disturbed sleep, but I think I am lucky when I read some others. I would go on to the full dose and see how you feel.
  13. I am over 60 and I have been off the fags since a week past Sunday, it is getting harder now but I am managing, find this site helpful. i agree with debbielou a lot of the symptoms occur no matter which method you use!!
