  1. Everything that I can't afford to lose is backed it, so it wouldn't have been the end of the world....just a pain in the arse!
  2. Success, I managed to restore it to a previous point. Thanks a million to everyone who replied, especially cinderella and just words. Although surely this could happen again....? Any idea what I could do to prevent that? Aside from getting rid of vista of course.
  3. Great idea! Attempting repair with windows disk now.
  4. I've done that, but when it gets to the screen 'Press any key to boot from CD', my keyboard doesn't work, so it'll try to load windows normally.
  5. You've lost me a little. The keyboard works at the first screen when: - I press F11 when the PC boots up which lets me select where to boot from. - Or F2 to setup. If I press neither of these things: - It'll go through to windows error recovery, where my keyboard does not work to let me select another option, and it'll try to start windows normally.
  6. By basic, I mean one that isn't wireless. (Smart ass )
  7. Yeah, I can boot into the BIOS, and when it says "Press any key to boot from CD" it won't let me because the keyboard won't let me. When I don't go into BIOS settings, it'll come up with the list of options: 1) Safe mode 2) Safe mode with networking 3) Last know good configuration. 4) Start windows normally. It'll just go to option 4, as that's the default one. I can't select any other option.
  8. I'm using a basic keyboard, that is plugged into a standard USB port at the back. The keyboard will work initially...i.e. it'll let me select the CD/DVD boot menu- but it won't let me choose any further options. Therefore, I can't attempt to do startup repair or anything like that.
  9. Been reading the other threads on this, but they aren't much help. I cannot attempt to try any of these things because my keyboard won't let me boot from my windows CD nor will it let me move to 'last known good configuration'. This is the message I get on the blue screen of death: Stop: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} Registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE. It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable. Any advice? If I can get my keyboard to work whilst windows is uploading I may be able to do something about it, but I can't. Very frustrating.

  11. I am mate, taking a break for good. Just seems to have clicked for me that this ain't for me. Nothing personal to you guys, it's just not really worth the hassle of doing this.
  12. With certain posters, the majority are excellent and try to keep decent discussion going. But this section of Sheffield Football has gone completely downhill, and I don't have the time nor the patience to try and sort it out.
  13. Try running out of patience. It's like running a day care centre.
  14. I'm hardly preaching, just trying to keep this forum in some kind of order. But fine, screw you. I'm done with this.
