  1. not my own words: Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) All items of telephone equipment have a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) which is used to calculate the number of items that may be connected to any one telephone line. Although you may have any number of telephone sockets, it is important to limit the number of telephones and other items including faxes, answer machines and modems, connected to your telephone sockets. Every telephone or item connected to the telephone has a REN, usually displayed on the base of the device (near to the green approval sticker) or in the user manual for the device. Most telephones have a REN of 1, but some faxes and modems may have a REN of more than 1. Simply add up the REN numbers of all the devices connected to your phone line anywhere in the house, the total should not exceed 4. You are likely to have technical problems (with equipment not working or ringing very quietly) if you exceed the REN limit of 4. If some or all of your phones fail to ring or some ring very weakly then try unplugging devices one at a time until they work. The REN of a telephone line can be increased by purchasing what is known as a REN extender, most will take you up to a REN of 8. They tend to cost around 40 pounds.
  2. This is really simple. You cannot use maths / science to work it out. It is a matter of convention. Wiki is correct: " midnight, literally both 12 hours before and 12 hours after noon, could then be either 12:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m., leaving the other end of the puzzle unresolved - hence the convention of 12 a.m. for midnight and 12 p.m. for noon."
  3. Bassett, there's so many on ebay / amazon, would you mind sharing the brand and model you have. I've been wanting to get front and back for a while but been put off by the fact most are £10 from China. If anyone else has one they would recommend please post. Thank you
  4. Absolutely everyone, no matter how disgusting their crime, deserves a fair trail. If he has done what we think he has done, then the evidence will support it and he will be dealt with fairly, which in my mind means locking him up for the rest of his time in a particularly harsh prison. The extent of his crimes means a fair trail and a fair sentence is exactly what you should want for him too. Fair does not mean lenient. Without a fair trial you are saying you believe he deserves an unfair trail based on what you read in a tabloid newspaper. Separate situation: What if you were arrested in a foreign country for offending a religious rule you were unaware of. Would you hope for a fair trial or would you accept the view of the religious fundamentalists who call for you to be stoned to death because its obvious you intended to offend their god? Human rights mean we are strong not weak.
  5. Middlehills farm campsite is very good. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=7835 They are one of the few sites that allow fires (although you have to use a basket). They have all the facilities so its not proper wild camping, but excellent for a relaxing weekend. ---------- Post added 28-02-2013 at 21:00 ---------- At the bottom, under facilities, there will be a campfire picture if they allow fires. Ive not found many that do.
  6. Couldnt agree more. In my opinion, MyProtein are the best balance of cost and quality. They taste good and they regularly have deals (3 for 2 etc). No doubt Maximuscle can prove they are 7.3% more bioavailable, but when it costs twice as much, you're paying for the brand name. Never think that products mean you dont have to do the hard work, but if you are doing the hard work, protein and creatine are proven to make sure you get the most out of it.
  7. Can anyone give their opinion please. Im trying to sort a friends garden in Totley. After a decent shower there's standing water on the turf and flower beds. Im going to do all the usual rotivating, adding organic matter and sharp sand process, but I dont think its going to be enough. I fancied a good soak away so dug a 1.3m deep test hole, it was all clay and even at the bottom there was no indication anything was going to change. A test with water has shown there is almost nothing 'soaking away'. So the question is: How deep does the average layer of clay go? Is there any chance of a 2m hole getting to porus material? I have no idea if once you find clay you should expect it to be 2km deep or 1.5m The alternative of draining to surface water drainage is a pain as its 6m away under a nice block paved drive. I wonder if next door fancy a bog garden
  8. Excellent. Please keep us posted with the details when you know them.
  9. If you're going to get someone to do it, Id leave it all to them. They'll know what they need, it'll be to regs, and they'll get it cheaper than you. No point you buying the wrong stuff.
  10. Yorkshire Tiles Sheffield does it. Find a mate who has an account to get it cheaper. Its good stuff, used the 9mm stuff under my slate floor. Sorry cant remember the price but would recommend it.
  11. I tend to use Mr Rubble, found them to be quick and good customer service etc. Their 8 tonners are £145.
  12. If you're certain your current set up is sweet, then you could temporarily turn system restore off. Disc cleaner gets rid of a lot. Temp files can go. Download folder could be cleared. Uninstall some programs / games you dont use. Remove Windows components you dont use. Move some files to removable drives or store online. Would reducing paging make a difference? In any case, if you're at 95% full then its time to get another drive. Good luck
  13. fb has the disgraceful habit of uploading all your phone contacts when you download the phone app without explicitly asking, the defense is that you agreed in the small print. It does this to 'enhance the customer experience', this includes suggesting people you may know. There's an exploit where you can sometimes find out who has your phone number in their phone contact list. There were some famous cases where people found out life changing private information, google it! "If you dont have to pay to use a product, you are the product".
  14. I think you've missed the point. You earn £4250 extra, but pay £450 extra council tax. The only extra costs are gas and electricity which would be less than £400 extra. So you're over £3k tax free up a year. That could be a large % increase on your disposable income. If you think you have a particularly desirable property, then dont use the scheme. Charge more and offset your increased expenses against the declared income.
  15. Did you see the Derren Brown stunt where about 30 people stood around 6 tables in groups of 5 with their hands resting on tables. They were told not to push or pull but to 'let the energy flow'. Within a minute the table were flying all round the room (dance floor in blackpool tower), some groups took some criptic prompting. It really showed the power of suggestion. Its great that he can explain what he's going to do in advance, then get 30 people to do it, and then listen to the explanations from them afterwards. They are so sure they could 'feel the spirits' and 'channel the power', even though he's a self confessed fraud. Just need to get the rest of them to admit it!
