  1. Thank you Moira. We have a Moira also in the household born in the late 1940s. The 1st part of your post is a revelation so thank you especially for that. I'm also hoping to find someone who knew the family personally. We have a few mysteries we need clearing up.
  2. I'm looking into my family history. I know my family lived here during the 1940s at number 119. Name of Blades. Quite a big family. Looking for anybody who knew them. My aunt Doreen passed away here age 19. Again mid 40s. But don't know how or why.
  3. Has anybody noticed how since Stagecoach came to town First' buses have slowly deteriorated in quality , granted they have bought loads of new buses but compared to the investment by Stagecoach it seems pitiful.
  4. Crash survivor , I would advise you to keep schtum, walls have ears & all that , you are probably still in shock, I know I would be, hope you get well soon, we all learn by our mistakes, just hope the police are not too hard on you, let us know how you are recovering.
  5. Maybe Anti Skid surfacing will put an end to the handbrake turns? As it is private land surely responsibility falls to Morrisons rather than the police?
  6. Take a photo with a long range lens & shop to your local community beat officer, if I remember rightly very few of these hoodlums favor crash helmets so a half decent picture should not be too hard, the police will know who they are, not exactly upstanding citizens are they, I would assume the bikes are kept at the home address. A middle of the night raid may encourage the parents to teach the offending child a thing or 2. That will probably be in the art of not getting caught though
  7. LOL Teaches me right for writing a comment whilst watching the football Evidently I did not proof read the comment before posting.
  8. I think many people do indeed fall victim to this, how many people do indeed post comments that are meant in a light hearted way that could indeed to some appear to be highly controversial, I was reading back through some of the comments on this post alone that certainly do indeed appear to raise the eyebrows.
  9. I am baffled why Sheffield Forum do not warn commenters over the consequence of the posts they put, South Yorkshire police are avid readers of this forum & will take action against any user they feel is breaking the law, I found this out myself recently after a comment I put up innocently forced me into resigning my job after the police 'investigated' me. It appears freedom of speech is no longer valid.
  10. I was about to laugh at you Then I found this: http://ipayroadtax.com/
  11. £40? I was driving a recovery truck with 6 spare seats, I could have made a killing there
  12. It was here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/53%C2%B023'17.1%22N+1%C2%B045'13.4%22W/@53.388076,-1.753716,1927m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 I am not sure how 100s of people staggering around on a road as dangerous as the snake, half drunk & wearing dark clothing at 3am can be classed as relatively safe?
  13. Thanks, I did try googling it without success, strange place to hold it though surely, no public transport access & no parking facilities. The organisation of the event seemed non existent which is why I thought it may have been some kind of illegal rave.
  14. As I drove across the Snake Pass last night (Sheffield bound) at around 3am there were 100s of young people walking along the road, surely enough none were wearing any bright clothing & quite a few nearly got run over (not only by me) . Alcohol was quite clearly being consumed, was there a rave or something going on? There were 2 police officers present but the blue lights on their car just seemed to add to the party mood , no crowd control was in force, the other concern was the parking of vehicles at the side of the road, many seemed to have just been abandoned. A curious site indeed!!!!!! The weather was dry & warm & there was quite a few ladies present that probably wore more clothes on a sunny day at the beach which made the whole situation more bearable however
