  1. It does say on my letter "If there is only one occupant in the home, they will be eligible for a single person discount of 25%. So it sounds like your in the clear ---------- Post added 01-03-2013 at 00:17 ---------- Thats disgusting! The Government really haven't thought this through properly at all have they, but then again why should they? It doesn't affect them and their numerous properties. Bet it makes you want to jack your job doesn't it and claim full benefits and i for 1 wouldn't blame you in the least.
  2. Thats true, thats why i asked if he/she was getting any rent/council tax benefits because only then will it affect them.
  3. Exactly! Just as it states on the review letters from the Job Centre "The law says £XXX is the amount you need to live on" wonder if they'll add a new sentence to that that says "except when the Government changes its mind"?
  4. Do you get any rent/council tax rebate? If you do and you've got 1 or more spare bedrooms then yes you'll prob have to pay council tax but not neccessarily all of it
  5. Oh and taking in a lodger is 1 of their suggestions in the letter, that way you wont have to rely on the benefits you'll just pay full rent and council tax instead! They offer a full page of options and support with the following suggestion...Make up the shortfall in rent from you other income or savings. Ask non-dependants to contribute. Take in a lodger. Increase your work hours. Find a job.
  6. I received my letter from Rotherham Council this morning. Having a spare bedroom means i have to pay 14% which works out at approximately £10.60 per week. On 1st April Council Tax will be abolished by the Government and no longer exist, it will then be called the Council Tax Reduction Scheme with 2 major differences. Firstly, the maximum Council Tax Reduction a working age claimant will weceive will be 91.5%. This means all working age claimants will have to pay a minimum of 8.5% of their Council Tax bill. Also, Second Adult Rebate is abolished for working age claimants. I've typed this off the letter iv been sent more or less word for word. All in all we're being stung AGAIN!
  7. So glad to hear your son will be ok Whats Poppy been up to? I ended up putting a safety gate at bottom of stairs cos if she went up she'd always poo in MY bedroom but nowhere else! Hopefully she'll behave herself now and your 3 will pull her into line cos thats something else she was missing out on...being socialised with other dogs.
  8. Hahaha thats Poppys "I hate baths" face lol it wont let me comment on photobucket for some reason but she looks 2 shades lighter and yep she def needs a trim bless her, she looks lovely when shes been done. Sorry to hear about your son hope he's ok now, i was going to wash her blanket before she came to you but that would have defeated all object of having a familiar smell round her but now she knows you all that wont be a problem Ah well best get ready for hospital
  9. I know you have but as i said not many people seem to have a good word to say about anyone so i thought id change that a bit. Sounds like we did the right thing for her as well, with all the hospital visits she was on her own too much and now shes got buddys to play with
  10. Hi, I haven't used Sheffield Forum for long but a lot of what I've read so far is so sad, demoralising and argumentative, there seem to be very few threads that bring good news or praise. Well I want to try and rectify that a little with some GOOD NEWS and PRAISE. We had a 1 year old pup called Poppy, shes a lovely little dog but due to unforseen ill health in my family we couldn't give her the time she deserved for walks and training though she got plenty of love off us. We eventually decided Poppy needed a new home with someone who could give her what we couldn't...it wasn't a decision we made lightly. My daughter posted on here what our problem was and immediately a young woman came to our aid, she told us she would foster Poppy until a suitable home came along, she invited us to take Poppy to her home and meet her family and other pets, this young woman has gone out of her way to put our minds at ease and gives us regular updates on how Poppy is. So CHEZZFAYE thank you so very much, foster carers like you dont get enough praise for taking animals into your own homes, all you want to do is help and care and for that I cant thank or praise you enough. THANK YOU to each and every foster carer for the selfless job you do
  11. Fantastic photos and beautiful beautiful dogs
  12. For those of you who dont know, "NIMBY" stands for "Not In My Back Yard" well Mecky why should children who live in the village not be able to attend the VILLAGE school? Why did the Council/school/church ( its a church of England school ) not have the foresight to see that the introduction of nearly 600 new homes would mean an increase in the number of children wanting to attend said VILLAGE school? I have nothing against the parents or children on the new estates but theres far more to it than you actually know so I really dont think you're in a position to make such pathetic remarks. By the way, I dont think I'm better than anyone but I DO believe children should be entitled to attend the school that is in their own village.
  13. Yes this post was 3 years ago and the houses are now in the process of being built and some are completed. I live in Treeton and have done all my life and we DO NOT want to become "Sheffielders" thats just a plain silly comment! The main problem with building the new estate ( 500 new homes ) and now a further 92 new homes is that the Council...including our own Parish Council...haven't considered extending Treeton school and now many of our kids are being turned away or made to travel to other villages. Most of the village is opposed to children not being able to attend their own village school and we are doing everything we can think of to get this problem sorted NOW!
  14. I belive in chipping, my last dog was chipped and my new pup will be chipped in the very near future, the law DOES need changing if "you only own the chip" but then again I got paperwork when I had my dog done which was to be filled in and sent off if ever the dog went to live with someone else. What does concern me is the fact that the owners will be prosecuted...quite rightly...if their dog attacks someone, but hasn't the damage to that person already been done? Compulsory chipping isn't going to stop dogs that attack and maim or kill people or other animals.
  15. Even if it is a year ago does that not go to show that the situation has NOT improved?
