Sheffield's New Lord Mayor - Magid Magid
property4u replied to Halibut's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
He's a fellow countryman, he come across like a breathe of fresh air, what a charming, positive, thoughtful and caring guy with get up and go. I think that he will do wonders, in fact I think that he already has. Very many congratulations and wishing him all the very best :-) -
There is someone outside the big Tesco on Savile Street. Why would smeone sit there on a busy (with vehicles), if they are homeless, why be there? Beggars should be removed from the streets, as it is an illegal activity. The authorities clearly need to do more, and if they need the financing, it needs be found.

The ruination of Sheffield - St Vincents

Of course, there are people who will pay, otherwise they wouldn't be built, my point is that it is an extravagance that society encourages with no regard for sustainability, longevity or community. -

That's a good word - sanctimonious, I haven't heard that in a while, perhaps not spent enough time on public forums :-) -

Not meant to be directed at students per se, more of a massive societal issue that we are galloping along with. Each student with their own bathroom, rather than 6 students sharing, as you might have in a family home for instance, there is no need for it. As for the Chinese, I have some experience, one of which was a trip to Rome last summer. A family member has Chinese acquaintances, they know how to get false papers necessary to stay and work in the country, they live in cramped accommodation, operate on the black market. They own a very many Italian firms, leather production, clothing, tourist industries, Venetian glass making etc etc. And here in Sheffield, they will be the owners of one of the most prestigious buildings the city has - the central library. -

What is inherited, the makeup of the United Kingdom? How far back would you like to go? -

The new blocks being built are infinitely more habitable - really? Those different residents: mainly students As a society, we are unable to stop the tide of developing mass accommodation for students that absolutely must have their own en-suite, a concierge to open the door to collect their takeaways, tiny boxes that are made to look bigger than they are with 'clever' interior design and poorly built. Students who leave mass litter at festivals for someone else to pickup, students who must have the latest trainers, phones, tvs. Developers know this and they build vastly over-priced boxes. It allows the economy to grow with no regard for the environment, longevity, a richness of life. It is all a big con that simply isn't sustainable, but let's all have it while we can! ---------- Post added 28-05-2017 at 11:57 ---------- Well, the university and the council have sold out to the Chinese, watch this space. -
Why do people read the Daily Mail or Daily Express ?

Yes, they DM is very keen to regularly fill its pages with utter crap, now if anyone is trying to influence the democratic election, the DM full of right-wing bias -

So we have a rightwing government with a UKIP agenda and a leftwing opposition and you want to blame people of a liberal persuasion for destroying our country. Would that be the UK, England, Scotland, Wales, N.Ireland? -

'....to see that blue badges...... therein lies the problem, some illnesses are more obvious than others. It is not the disabled who are abusing the system, but unfortunately not everyone is honest. Perhaps a little less judgement and a bit more understanding and compassion? -
They want your money to fund their campaign and oh yes they want your vote. Be satisfied that they are chasing your vote and trying to engage in the voters than not hearing from them either because they are arrogant to think that they don't need to canvass, they don't think they have a chance, they don't have the funds or they can't be bothered. Just make sure you all Vote, each and every vote matters, it is your civic duty. ---------- Post added 28-05-2017 at 00:41 ---------- I'm not sure that he said that he would reverse the referendum - that's a matter for the electorate, however it may be that the LibDems and the Green party are trying to represent the 48% of people who voted to remain, and may hope to get some of those Brexiteers who felt duped (um £350m a day for the NHS etc etc. However, it seems that most Brexiteers don't appear to mind being fed several massive lies that will grossly affect the opportunities of their children and grandchildren. Beggars belief.

Who's at fault here in this car crash
property4u replied to *_ash_*'s topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Um, it really is a simple case of not checking in your mirrors, regardless of markings in the road. Since when did stupid road layouts mean that you can stop using common sense and your eyes. White car drives into black car - simple. Another highways cockup, causing unnecessary confusion to motorists who don't use their mirrors. -
No planning permission - consequences?
property4u replied to poppet2's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Yes, that's exactly what it's for.....and I know of a planning officer who has recently done that before selling their house......who needs an architect or to follow the rules.....no one seems bothered :-( -
The new blue boxes for paper
property4u replied to daisydaisy22's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I called veolia up about this. An approximation of what they said, it is Charities who benefit from the plastic (all grades) left at recycling sites, who sell it on. Veolia want to cash in on this but are not interested in the low grade plastic so they want the public to sort their plastics and only depositing the high grade plastic in the blue wheely bins leaving the charities all the low grade plastic (at the recycling centres if people can still be bothered to go there now). This will no doubt have a detrimental affect on the Charities income and have have a very beneficial affect on Veolia's income. This policy is supported by SCC who presumably will not benefit from an increase in their income. On what basis is this justifiable? Why are council tax payers assisting SCC to boost the profits of a private (profit making) organisation in preference to supporting charities. If Veolia was a non-profit making organisation working in partnership with SCC on behalf of the Council Tax payers I wouldn't have a problem. So I for one are taking my high grade plastic to the recycling point for the benefit of the charities involved...... Also if SCC/Veolia were really interested in reducing waste they would encourage people to re-use and reduce, provide free composting bins (or at least at minimal cost), rain water butts etc etc. It's simply about profit. I am a fit adult but I will be struggling to carry my full blue box (because of the size, weight, logistics and obstacles(steps) ) outside for collection and I will no doubt forget and I'm ### if I'm going to tie up bundles of paper from minute pieces to boxes with string every two weeks (or when I remember). We'll have to wait for someone to sue the council when they fall over whilst carrying their blue box for collection.
