  1. Word has it that the pub re-opens Friday 1st July! Lets hope its a success.
  2. Does anyone know whats happening with this pub now? Was meant to be closing for refurb in January - but didnt. Now its closed again from 6th June - meant to be reopening 20th June - but nothings been done to it. Has it closed for good this time? If so why are the regulars being fobbed off with rumours all the time.
  3. Its for "Chase 4 Life" being the mens equivalent of Race for Life. 5km run from Abbeydale Sports ground, round Dore and back.
  4. My husbands family lived on Newhall Rd, sorry dont know which number. Name - Birt. I know he mentions Mrs Persils fish and chips shop and his dad worked at Hadfields and walked to work from there.
  5. It was always open when I passed at 9am on way to work but not these days. Not on sunday when we went past either.
  6. In my experience having "TRIED" to look round, clothing seems a little expensive and you cant look round properly because the woman in there just wants to talk all the time!!
  7. I think Hadfields were taken over by Firth Browns around the 1970's. What happened then I dont know.
  8. I thought the couple running it at the moment were only temporary?
  9. Whats happened to Salvins, everytime I go past lately its closed.
  10. Having been abroad earlier this year for first time in ages we decided to take a mixture of cash, travellers cheques and a Post Office travel card. We brought back almost all the travellers cheques unused. We used the cash we had taken then used the travel card in the ATM machines which was far easier than queing in the banks and taking the passport out. Thomas Cook charged £30 per £1000 TC's then wanted to charge the same to cash them back! So took them to the Halifax where they paid them into our account like paying in cash with no charge so just beware. But i can recommend the travel cards they are much easier to use.
  11. I have been in the Westfield Scheme for years and didnt used to have any difficulty with them BUT now for the 2nd time they are refusing to pay out my eye test benefit saying that I have claimed in under the 2 year limit and maybe I did the first time by mistake but definitely not this time as the optician sent me a reminder saying my test was due on 12th May so when I made the appointment I made sure I didnt go before that date and in fact it was bang on the 12th when I went. So I sent in my Westfield claim form only once again to be told it was under the 2 years!!! they say I cannot claim until the 19th when I know for definite it was the 12th! So a rather nasty letter is on its way and have told them to immediately cancel the direct debit as I am totally disgusted with them and the way they have changed over the years. I have paid in all this money and get nothing back in return, what a money making scam.
  12. I was brought up with being smacked when naughty and as the saying goes "it never did any harm". It did however teach me respect, show me right from wrong and how to behave both at home and in public. The kids these days seem to have none of these and why there are so many ABSO's about. No I dont have kids, its the bad behaved ones that actually put me off ever having any and I dont regret it. But, if I had had any I would certainly be smacking them if they were badly behaved, especially in public places.
  13. Are contracts and handbooks of employment really worth the paper they are written on when half the staff don't adhere to the terms contained therein and get away with it? And how do you go about a grievance procedure? Is the management to blame?
  14. Has anyone out there used a Travel Money Card instead of Travellers Cheques? If so have you found them easy to use, do the Visa ATMs abroad accept them easily, any excessive charges? They sound a good alternative but a bit wary of anything I've not used before.
