  1. Couple of suggestions for you..... Antibos...pricey but the food is excellent and you have that italian atmosphere that always seems romantic The Milestone....intimate, excellent food and an independant restaurant making it a little more special Thyme Cafe....beautiful restaurant and not to bad on the wallet Ego....is well priced and gives you the option of taking her to a concert. Good Luck and hope it goes well!
  2. They won't make you unless you want to give it a go. Plus they've stopped putting shows on now haha
  3. Theres the Buddhist centre just up from hunters bar roundabout that does Tai Chi courses/classes and has a good reputation. Have you thought about doing Yoga? A few of the guys I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu do it and they really benefot from additional fitness and flexibility. Knox Boxing gym which is on Sydney Street is great for building general fitness and theres a couple of guys with similar problems as yourself training there. I also suggest popping into the forge (Gracie Barra Sheffield) and having a chat with John Goldson, he's done quite a few martial arts and will no doubt be able to offer some advice or suggestions on how you could still do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu if you fancied having a go.
  4. I'd just like to say that I've trained with the guys at EKBJJ (when it was under Royce Gracie) and found them great guys to train with, I then trained at Kapap and found the training great and my fitness rocketed. After popping into GB Sheffield a few times when they had the shop, I decided to have a go there. I have since found my skills and abilities have increased at a shocking rate. John is an outstanding coach who makes sure you have a laugh and joke but still get the benefit of what he is teaching you, you then have the support of all your team mates at so many different levels of their game. My point is, as so many others have said, you have to try all the clubs to find the one you most feel comfortable in. I'd happily still train at EKBJJ and Kapap if the opportunity ever arose. Hope the website works and you get more people into the sport!!!!
  5. I now have a view of a giant white box from my place. On my way to work I walk past another giant box this time in brown. What on earth is Sheffield City Council playing at? Damn I wish I was getting a chunk of the brown envelopes that must be getting handed out! Sheffield is full of history why are we demolishing it to build crap? Whoever is responsible for granting planning permission for these projects should be strung up in the peace gardens! Here I am helping a collegue struggle to get permission for two eco-houses, and heres a group of developers designing rubbish which is an eye-sore to the landscape with no connection to its surroundings at all, getting permission without hesitation! Sheffield City Council is really starting to cheese me off!

  8. Starting this sunday (14th September 2008) Knox Boxing Gym on Sydney street will be starting women only boxing sessions. Sessions will be 3pm til 4-5pm depending on numbers and costs £3. This is a great way to get into shape and increase your overall fitness. Sparring is not compulsory and you will not be forced to do anything you don't want to. But you should be prepared to train hard! Interested? get in touch via email uzmaston@hotmail.com for more information.
  9. Well I suppose I'll be the one to offer you boxing. Knox boxing gym aims to help you get your overall fitness up and leaves it to you, if you want to train to compete. But the fitness training is phenomenal, I've trained with them properly for about 15 months (but been going for just over 2 years) and lost 4.5 stone going 3 times a week within a year. Knox boxing gym, Sydney street (same place as AFK Kickboxing). Mon-Thurs 5-7 Fri 3-5 Saturday 11-12 !!!NEW!!! Sun 15-17 Ladies only Sessions are £3 or 4 for £10
  10. I have to agree that was a fantastic show, glad I went and definately getting myself to the next one! Richard get your arse into gear and get training for your fight!!!!
  11. Thats right. Play ignorance card. Architecture is one of things which should affect your life on daily basis after all the average person spends over 60% of their time in one. I don't condone any of the buildings rising in sheffield, maybe its time for SCC to get off their asses and start doing something to ensure Sheffield gets better buildings with Architectural merit.
  12. Architecture doesn't always please everyone, I admit the monstousity surrounding the winter gardens should be torn down, but like someone said before money speaks louder. Rumour has it that the winter gardens was partly funded by the developers of st Pauls hotel, as a way to get planning permission. Instead of moaning on here about the state of architecture in the city. why don't you click that red cross in the top right of your screen, and do something about it? You can object to these buildings being built. You can demand for a more aestheticlly pleasing building. (Please as a personal favour, if you do this demand low energy, environmentally consious buildings) I was always told 'don't critisize unless you can do better!'
  13. But at least its using alternative materials, adding a bit of colour, and unique. Has anyone seen the modern architecture in Berlin? its inspiring, it would never work over here, planning and local government would never allow it!
  14. I agree sheffield is rather unattractive but slowly sheffield city council are starting to get their act together and do something about it. For example the revamp in front of the Train Station up to novatel, looks pretty good now (pity you get to the peak and see Novatel but never mind.) And then there is the peace gardens, In an Ideal world Novatel would be torn down and the route from the train station would carry on up to the peace gardens. I hate the ravamp in front of City Hall, but probably done on cheap because that gets affected when the new Meadowhell gets built in city centre. This new Meadowhell is a 20yr old project, originally scoped and planned out in the late 80's, an example of SCC incompetence to provide services to its constituants. Does sheffield really need to become all Steel and Glass? Why can't it retain some of it's historic architecture and renovate? Why not combine Modern and Old?
