  1. I don't want to mess around paying a 50p charge by phone. The machines should be working - after all the cost of the parking is paying for their up keep.
  2. I use taxis regularly and usually book a private cab, which are far more professional in their approach. Many Black cabs are old and in a poor condition. There used to be an age restriction on them, which should again be a law that is enforced. They are often cold. They are often dirty. The driver can keep you locked in the back – which should be illegal. Many of the drivers are unfriendly and discourteous The standard of their driving is often appalling. As part of their licence it is not unreasonable to expect that they at least know every area/suburb in Sheffield and drive to a minimum standard that I would propose should be advanced from the normal driving test.
  3. A Sheffield Forumer came and cut the tree up. It took him perhaps a hour and a half. I loaded the wood up later in the week and dropped it off at his house, so both parties happy.
  4. You may be correct. But then again if someone wants a large quantity of wood for free, with little work, you may not be.
  5. Does anybody know the cheapest/easiest way to dispose of a tree that the snow brought down and is lying in my back garden? I was rather hoping someone would want the wood free and be prepared to call to chop it and remove it, but I have had no takers!
  6. Location: S10 Condition of item: N/A Further details The snow has brought down an old tree in my back garden (S10). If anybody has a chain saw and wants to come and chop it up they are welcome to the wood. There are actually two trunks about 10” to perhaps 4” so will make a good few tons of manageable logs. PM me if interested. Interested? Questions? To contact this user, click on their user name to access the Email or Private Message forms.
  7. Ridiculous statement I assume you include: walking/hiking running tennis golf gardening etc etc because all are sports and past times that will result in injuries and death.
  8. Thank you - I thought this would be the case, but didn't know or have the inclination to discover.
  9. Any company can become insolvent, regardless of size. I am aware of the size of the company. In any case I think it is far more likely that if/when these roads do breakdown prematurely, they will argue that they were constructed as per specification: eg We used the tarmac as per the spec - somebody else should have specced a different grade. We laid the tarmac on planed road surface to the thickness in the specc - somebody else should have specced it thicker. etc etc.
  10. If these roads breakdown as I suspect they will, there is no way they will honour that part of the agreement - they would either wriggle out of it, saying they were laid as specified, or more likely become insolvent. Also honouring the agreement does not stop them patching the roads/pavements, leaving them in no better condition than before they were started.
  11. The company is a disgrace. On a number of newly laid pavements around Broomhill, they had to dig channels in the new pavements because they forgot the new led lighting was going in – so now the new pavements are as bad as the ones they replaced. The same with drop kerbs – they fit the new pavement, then come back and dig it up to lay the drop kerb and patch around the new drop kerb with tarmac. I am no expert, but I will be surprised if the new roads last 5 years before they need completely stripping out and re-laying. Look at Hoole Rd (a side road) that has been down about a year – the tarmac now appears to be lifting and has dozens of large cracks. Don’t waste your time writing to the council or your MP (mine being Clegg) – you are as good as wasting your time. Nobody seems bothered.
  12. Your posts are so far left and so unreasonable – they are almost funny. This post is ludicrous and ridiculous beyond belief. Do you really believe you can get quality tradesmen to work for Β£10 per hour? Do you really believe that your figure of Β£500 for a large plot of land suitable for a semi is anything but a stupid dream? Do you have any idea of the cost of raw materials for building? (– Do you think for a semi it could be 30, 40, 80K, …? To answer the op question. I believe tenants want different things: A student wants different housing and furniture than a single mum. I think it goes without saying - most people want to live in as nice a house as they can afford. (Clean, warm/as economical to run as possible, dry, safe and in their chosen location.) You need to chose your tenant market (student, Dss, single mum, professional etc) then purchase accordingly. I would only consider purchasing the house you mention if it is cheaper. Do not listen to people like chem1st - because as a landlord you will be the Devil.
  13. I can't see a link to a website. But so what if it is going towards the expenses and travel to enable them to get there. It is a great idea to raise funds for her chosen charity.
  14. I spoke to the contractor last week who promised to call me back within five days. Someone in the company called me and was useless. I insisted on speaking to someone higher in the company. They called and said the person responsible for the mistake had left the company. I insisted this was not a good enough answer and I wanted to speak to someone higher - I was promised the 'finance director' would call me and I am awaiting the call.
  15. We have waited many years for our pavements and roads to be re-surfaced. Now, only a few weeks after the pavements have been resurfaced, many of them around Broomhill are being dug up for the new lamp posts and lighting – that we have also known were coming for many months. This is beyond belief. The contractor should be made to re-lay the whole pavement (– not just patch them up) and it should come out of their profit. But it won’t happen. I have spoken to the contractor twice, but have got nowhere. I shall write to my local MP – but we all know what will happen – sweet …………
